Opinions sought! Too many stickies!

Greetings forum members.

Anyone else feel like there are too many stickies on the boards? I find it tiresome to scroll past them and wondered if anyone else was bothered enough to potentially want to sort out which ones to unsticky. They wouldn't disappear completely, they'd just not be held at the top anymore.

Plz vote.

Iamcatbug 12-03-2023 09:45 AM

Tbh most are 3-4 so not exactly scrolling past hundreds to get down to threads.

long road 12-03-2023 11:45 AM

I like some of the stickies. They have useful info. I don't know if we need all of them but there are definitely some I would want to keep. I don't find them too annoying I just skim past them to bold threads with new posts.

Elmer 12-03-2023 02:11 PM

A lot, if not most of them are redundant now. Lots of outdated resources and site staff lists, the guide to chat etc. And I really hate accidentally opening them, especially on mobile. I think the site would be nicer to use on mobile without them.

Elmer 12-03-2023 02:17 PM

And lots of the ones that are left could be merged, I think?

I see your point Lio especially about staff lists and chat guides and things. Plus accidentally finger flailing into threads is super annoying on mobile.

I am thinking of two advice/ info style ones in particular that I would want to keep but have no strong opinions on any others. The two are: A list of useful threads in Abuse and Bullying and The Self Harm Information Package in Self Harm Discussion and Support. Although I appreciate some elements in these may be out if date.

If we were to merge threads perhaps we just need Rules and a list of useful threads as a sticky in specific support forums. And just rules in other forums?

Unless we want to go full maverick and get rid of what to post in this forum stickies!

not_so_insig 13-03-2023 02:15 PM

I think a fair few could be gotten rid of. For example I think that gsa has too many. I think that the suicide information package in serious is useful though that needs updating (for example the Samaritans phone number is wrong on that particular thread). I think some are irrelevant as the demographic of ryl has changed since they were created and the majority of people here are not minors.

Tl;dr keep some, get rid of some and update the information where needed on the ones we are gonna keep.

The Worst Witch 13-03-2023 07:41 PM

The ones on the ED board are confusing, for example there are two that say ‘new rules please read’ and you have to then look at the dates they were posted to figure out which one is the newest one. Also, I think the whole infraction system is out of date and while I agree a place like this needs rules, I don’t feel we need all of them anymore. One rule that basically said ‘don’t be a dick’ would suffice I feel.

This made me really laugh. I agree, though!

Auror. 13-03-2023 11:49 PM

Actually disagree with the idea of one rule. Been a lot of other mental health related places like that and there tends to be a lot of emotional blackmail and very inappropriate things said. We like that this has rules around that type of stuff. It makes it feel much safer.

We don't really have a preference on stickies because we just scroll past them. But we are always on a laptop and do not do mobile things so we can see where that might be an issue.

Pi.R^2 14-03-2023 12:13 AM

There was a big initiative to overhaul the rules but it didn’t get done and there’s no one around with the power to change pages on the website so that’s a no go anyway!
Very little can be done about any published material regarding the infraction system but I do think we’ve always tried to adapt to the site’s needs when giving out any infractions (which is really incredibly rare- three official warnings/infractions in all of 2022). Open to feedback on this, though of course can’t discuss any particular case pubicly.

Zurg 14-03-2023 10:34 AM

*sniggers*
Jenna Said 'pubicly'….. XD

I have no useful contributions at all. I just came to point this out…. :D

Pi.R^2 14-03-2023 10:50 AM

:crying:
So i did!! Don’t know whether to change it or leave it for your entertainment!

I do feel reassired by this. Just feel that a banning sustem when we have so few members is kind of counterproductive, also had concerns that there was no mods to do the ‘three mods have to agree’ thing. This isn’t a dig against you Jenna, or an attempt to suggest you would do things maliciously just because you didn’t like someone but its a wah of keeping things fair.

Pi.R^2 14-03-2023 09:13 PM

Well, banning is separate! Ban spambots all the time!

Unbreakable. 14-03-2023 09:16 PM

But how will I know about discount Ugg boots when you are like that :*(

Auror. 14-03-2023 09:51 PM

we must be getting more well behaved as we age

Zurg 15-03-2023 07:57 PM

Or we are blossoming into truly, subtle evil geniouses, Camden :D

Auror. 15-03-2023 08:10 PM

also a possibility!

The Worst Witch 15-03-2023 10:27 PM

What about the members that were permabanmed that sometimes show up, do we still report our suspicions or are they allowed back?

Pi.R^2 16-03-2023 12:16 AM

Of course?

The Worst Witch 16-03-2023 10:19 AM

Cool, I just didn’t know if the policy had changed due to how little members we have, like if having ‘new’ members was bpthe focus and it didn’t matter what people had done 10+ years ago in some cases :)

OFFICIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THAT THIS IS FUNNY
APOLOGIES FOR MISSING IT INITIALLY

We may or may not have been post reported for failing to acknowledge this great wit

Pi.R^2 05-04-2023 10:04 PM

Right, a narrow victory for let's get rid of some stickies! What I plan to do is message all the people who were pro-stickies and let them tell me any that they wish to protect. If anyone else has stickies they want to remain sticky, please feel free to send me a PM.

Then the Great Sticky Refinement of 2023 can begin!

Also huge respect to Lana who voted for neither option, only the lesbians (despite not making it an option in her own poll) and huge disrespect to anyone who failed to vote for lesbians.

long road 12-04-2023 08:04 PM

I see the destickying has begun. Good work Jenna!

Pi.R^2 12-04-2023 08:36 PM

Ssshhhh, you can’t see it until it’s all done!!

Pi.R^2 12-04-2023 10:09 PM

Right, so I thought I was gonna do this all in one day but I've got up to the SI board and flippin' heck. I'm trying to update the ones that are staying, but there's so many links in some of them that need checking so yeah, this will be a longer term project I think =S

I have done all the boards above the self-harm board so if you have even less of a life than me and want to have a read through of some to check you think they are both up to date and relevant then that would be great. If you spot anything that needs changing, feel free to post report it or if what you have to say is deeply interesting and insightful, you could post it straight on the thread!

Much modly thanks.

I checked all the links in useful links on grieving and suicide info package and post reported you a change log. Some of the links were dodgy. I hope my phone is ok! (Didn't enter any data and cleared cookies so should be fine)

I will try and check links in SI board tomorrow if you PM which threads are staying?

I updated my custom user title to announce I have less of a life than you :p

Pi.R^2 13-04-2023 11:42 AM

Oh golly, thanks Jen! For some reason I didn’t check those two at all???? I promise there were others that I did actually deal with properly! There were some lovely internet safety links that took you to a proper retro CBBC webpage from the early 2000s…

That's ok these things occur! Happy to have helped out.
Plus in suicide info package the links were right near the bottom of a load of text posts so easy to miss.

Aww retro internet safety ,so nostalgic!

one_step_closer 13-04-2023 12:46 PM

The lack of stickies are a lack of protection, now my head is just banging straight into threads without the gentle pillow of stickies first.

You've done a good job though, Jenna. *places crown on your head*

Pi.R^2 13-04-2023 01:05 PM

What a beautiful description Lindsay!

Auror. 13-04-2023 05:16 PM

Yea it will take some getting used to. Thanks for your hard work Jenna!

Pi.R^2 13-04-2023 06:32 PM

Bloody hell, did you lot whinge this much when they got rid of a load of boards? (Moving Forward, grief etc)
:P

one_step_closer 13-04-2023 06:36 PM

I don't even remember those transitions. Must have been done more smoothly than you have ripped away the stickies!

Pi.R^2 13-04-2023 06:40 PM

:plain: :plain: :plain:

Auror. 13-04-2023 09:18 PM

we definitely did yes! it was a huge deal at the time

Pi.R^2 13-04-2023 09:56 PM

Haha! I remember thinking that Moving Forward being removed was the greatest tragedy of the year :P. I might dig out some old threads about it as I bet it was dramatic!

glitterfairy 13-04-2023 10:43 PM

I remember that ish I just remember the Boris board was taken away yet was actually quite useful and had a good community going lol. But that was years ago lol.

I found the discussion thread and like, I wasn't even embarrassing in it? I'm normally always embarrassed reading my old posts :P

Auror. 13-04-2023 11:36 PM

When actually was that? It feels like it's been ages.

It was, that’s where I met the mod that died and a few other people back in the day.

Well done on your hard work Jenna! :)

Thanks for not just joining in with these whingers :P

not_so_insig 14-04-2023 01:35 PM

I remember the couch thread though as far as I remember I never posted in it. Though I have been here for 20 years so there's a lot I remember.

Pi.R^2 14-04-2023 01:56 PM

I carried out the required research and confirm that you did not ever post in it.

Pi.R^2 14-04-2023 01:59 PM

Also the best thing I found in that 2015 thread was someone already bitching about how there was no point because RYL was dying :P

The Worst Witch 14-04-2023 02:03 PM

I have a feeling that was me…

ETA: would it make sense to sticky the say here thread? I know we’re reducing the amount of stickies and not encouraging more, but I have a feeling it used to be stickied. I may just be being silly as activity has signifkcantly reduced from the last time the thread was popular, so people may feel differently to me.
