Train Ticket Bookings.

So, this is going to be another one of those stupid questions from the one and only, me.

I've had some train tickets booked for me, and I just got the email saying they are booked, the code etc etc.

I don't travel until Friday but can I pick the tickets up before then or does it have to be on the day of travel? I don't know about this stuff, I never pre-book tickets.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 02:48 PM

I never book tickets. But I'm pretty sure you can pick them up before travelling if you have the code. Although I think you need to have the card that you booked it with. Which I'm guessing you don't have access to because someone booked them for you.

Had this issue a couple of months ago and I had to call the ticket people because the person we booked the ticket for obviously didn't have the card.

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 02:50 PM

Ohhh...That will be a issue haha! I'm going to the train station tomorrow, i'll ask someone these.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 02:56 PM

Best to get it sorted early!

Had to race against time when we did it!

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 02:57 PM

That's what I was thinking, in case anything does go wrong I want it to go wrong early haha.

I don't like pre-booking, it scares me and makes me paranoid.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 03:03 PM

I never pre book.

I like to live life on the edge ;p

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 03:05 PM

God, how wild are we?! Watch out wildness, Becky and I are about.

ASkatersDream... 11-10-2013 03:29 PM

If you are doing self collect from the station you need the card it waa booked with but you can do it before you travel bit you do need the debit/credit card it was booked with

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 03:30 PM

Oh that is a problem, I don't have the card it was booked with...I'll ask tomorrow at the station and see what they say.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 03:47 PM

We're so hardcore! :p

You can get around it, just have to speak to the right people.

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 04:11 PM

And that would be the dude in the station haha

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 04:18 PM

Ah! Not always!

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 04:36 PM

I can see this getting complicated. I'll just see what happens tomorrow.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 05:02 PM

Good luck!
If all else fails, flash cleavage and they are more likely to help ;p

Maybe it doesn't work if you're a guy though :p

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 05:07 PM

Pfft, i'll get my moobs out! Bitches love moobs.

Cacoethes 11-10-2013 05:15 PM

I'm sure they do...... >.>

ASkatersDream... 11-10-2013 06:11 PM

Also though booking in advance by first class post can save you money

1x 16-25 railcard
1x nus card

A return to london for £17
Your looking at least £10 more on day.

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 06:36 PM

I never travel by first class. and to be honest, i've looked into this, even if I booked months in advance I wouldn't get it any cheaper, well I didn't look for this trip but others I have.

ChocolateMarvel 11-10-2013 07:21 PM

If someone else is booking for you in advance it may be better to get the tickets posted you.... I will be interested to see how you get on tomorrow asking at the station as I was told I had to have the payment card :/

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 07:27 PM

I wouldn't even know how to get them posted to me, nothing is in my name! haha. I was just forwarded the email today with the collection ref etc on it. I'll make sure I report back tomorrow to tell how I get on! Hahah.

ASkatersDream... 11-10-2013 07:33 PM

Ways and means mike to het thinhs like trains cheaper.

First of all a railcard if eligible
2nd book tickets in advance
If that dont get it cheaper

2x tickets

Derby to Birmingham
Birmingham to London

Ive always secured cheaper tickets

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 07:34 PM

Oh I always use my rail card! Without fail.

sherlock holmes 11-10-2013 08:05 PM

Laura didn't mean first class travel, she meant getting the tickets posted to you by first class post.

When I book tickets online I always get them posted to me by recorded delivery.

FabulousMike 11-10-2013 08:06 PM

Oh my mistake, I got a little confused haha.

Myimmortalgirl 12-10-2013 02:56 PM

Yeah you can collect them any day before travelling as long as you have the code they give you on the email

GlitterTrashDoll 12-10-2013 05:39 PM

It should say on the email ways to pick them up.

You need the card to pick them up - but ive gotten mine from the desk before not the self service machine and showed her the email. I still had to show my card but if you explain the situation it should be fine.

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 06:26 PM

I got the tickets, he honestly didn't care, I went to explain it to him and his was like 'do you have the ref code' gave it to him and he gave me the tickets.

Next job, work out the bloody London Underground!

Wonderland. 12-10-2013 06:31 PM

The underground looks rather confusing at first but it's so simple once you do it like once.

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 06:36 PM

I've been on there once, but I was with people so they told me when to get off and all that haha.

Wonderland. 12-10-2013 06:53 PM

Where you wanting to get to and from?

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 06:55 PM

From Euston to Esher.

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 07:02 PM

Sorry Euston to Vaxhall.

Wonderland. 12-10-2013 07:02 PM

Looks like you have to get the Victoria Line to Vauxhall and then get a train from there to Guilford and then get a bus to Esher.

This is the journey planner :)

sherlock holmes 12-10-2013 07:04 PM

I'm one of those people who finds the London Underground fascinating and as a result of studying the map and using it quite often I find it quite easy to use. You can never get lost as there are maps everywhere, and you can always ask station staff for help in getting to where you want to go. Possibly the tricky part is working out whether you want to go north/southbound or east/westbound on a particular line but the stations are always listed next to the platform for each direction. If you have to miss a train in order to make sure you're on the right platform it doesn't matter as there'll be another in a few minutes.

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 07:05 PM

I just noticed, National Rail actually tells me, according to that it's the Victoria Line going South on Platform 5

sherlock holmes 12-10-2013 07:06 PM

Euston to Vauxhall is easy- Victoria Line southbound.

Wonderland. 12-10-2013 07:06 PM

It's just the Vic line southbound I think but they have big clear signs of where both north and south go to. And then get off at Vauxhall :)

sherlock holmes 12-10-2013 07:06 PM

Just remember it's the one after Pimlico :)

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 07:07 PM

Thank you everyone! I think i've got it sussed now. I will defeat the Underground!

Wonderland. 12-10-2013 07:12 PM

All the underground worker people are really friendly anyway if you get mixed up, so don't be afraid to ask if you get confused.

FabulousMike 12-10-2013 07:13 PM

I more than likely will get confused, it's what I do and London scares the **** out of me anyways haha. I've become quite skillful at asking directions to platforms etc.
