Pads or Tampons?

Just out of curiosity, which do you prefer/use most often?
DEBATE!

offlineforever 23-01-2013 02:18 PM

Because I fail with tampons it has to be pads!

Intaytia 23-01-2013 02:18 PM

There was a recent thread about tampons and it went into a rather wide discussion. That might be worth a look :)

not_so_insig 23-01-2013 02:23 PM

I use neither (have a mooncup).

OneForSorrow 23-01-2013 02:26 PM

Is a mooncup good? I always get a bit freaked out by them!

crazykat 23-01-2013 02:35 PM

I prefer tampons, I just feel icky wearing pads

FabulousMike 23-01-2013 03:18 PM

I always use tampons...

Accidentally Abstract 23-01-2013 03:34 PM

^ You're such a troll.

Tampons FTW.

FabulousMike 23-01-2013 03:35 PM

Who say's i'm trolling?!

Maybe I don't have a penis and I use tampons?! :P

MunchBox 23-01-2013 03:46 PM

Pads, but after the recent tampon thread I'm tempted to use them.

Michael, I always assumed that.

Mike is a girl? I knew it!

FabulousMike 23-01-2013 04:32 PM

:O did I let me secret out?!

GlitterTrashDoll 23-01-2013 04:37 PM

Tampons.
I find pads horrible!

Delephynite 23-01-2013 04:49 PM

I'm on the injection so no periods for me (win!)

However when I did have them I always used tampons. Pads just feel like wearing a nappy.

Stellata 23-01-2013 05:00 PM

Pads.

Nargles 23-01-2013 06:28 PM

After the recent tampon thread I've started using a mooncup and I don't think I'll ever go back to tampons. Pads are also a huge no no for me :P

Pi.R^2 23-01-2013 07:02 PM

^I like that my thread caused you to convert to mooncups!

Tampons all the way. I could write an entire page about how much pads creep me out, but I'll refrain. Though seriously folks, you should try tampons! Means apart from changing four times a day, you don't even realise you're on your period! Win!

Stellata 23-01-2013 07:18 PM

What about the PAIN? And the crankiness? Surely they don't cure that?!

Pi.R^2 23-01-2013 07:20 PM

They totally do!

OK, they don't really :p But they significantly improve your mood, because you don't walk around all day feeling like you've wee'd yourself. *shivers*

OneForSorrow 23-01-2013 07:22 PM

^ Agreed. Once you're used to them, they are SO much more comfortable, and you feel more confident in wearing stuff and moving and things like that.

Stellata 23-01-2013 07:23 PM

Can you start wearing them after, ahem, omg, 30 YEARS of periods?!
It's true. 30 years this year.
Bring on the perimenopause. Oh, wait.

GlitterTrashDoll 23-01-2013 07:44 PM

I agree with Jenna in te disgustingness that is pads!

I still want to try a mooncup - I'm still looking into the different ones though. Decisions!

makedamnsure 23-01-2013 08:11 PM

I hated pads but until I had erm...had sex for the first time. I could never seem to use tampons. After that I didn't have a problem with tampons, though I still find them annoying as even the super strong ones I have to change after about 2 hours :(

I don't see why not! And gosh, what a lot of periods!

Have you tried super plus extra? I have a rather heavy flow (YES YOU ALL NEEDED TO KNOW THIS) but with super plus extra can normally get through about 4 hours.

I now have mean girl quotes in my head.

YES.
Jodie doesn't understand heavy flows and only uses regular tampons and scowled when I asked her to buy me some super plus extra tampons. I replied with "I can't help it if I have a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!".

*crying with laughter*

little.ophelia 23-01-2013 08:29 PM

^Wow. If you imagine each one lasts 3-4 days, that's like, almost 3 or 4 years of your life being on your period!

Pi.R^2 23-01-2013 08:30 PM

3-4 days??? Nice for some! I'm on for about six days and then spend the few days after that wondering if it's planning a last minute attack to draw it out into a second week. Naughty period :nono:

Yes, because periods have brains and plan these things...

Mine does. It's a badass.

IN RELATED NEWS, Jodie just got a period tracker app on her smart phone and it is thrilling and has lots of different sections for menstrual symptoms, mood, ovulation, etc. It's so exciting. I don't have a smart phone, so may have to make a paper version for myself.

Carla_x 23-01-2013 08:38 PM

I've always used pads. I once tried one of my mum's tampons as a teenager and it kind of, uh, got a bit stuck and I freaked out. I didn't dare try again after that. :P

Stellata 23-01-2013 08:38 PM

'NAPS' [National Association for Premenstrual Syndrome] have forms online and such, Jenna. I had to use that when I was referred to the PMS clinic.

makedamnsure 23-01-2013 08:41 PM

Jenna - if that's the orange ones then yes *scowls*
It's only horrendously bad for about 2-3 days and then calms down for the last few days thank god.

I might genuinely have to get Jodie's app! I turn into evil psycho bitch the week or two before and always end up arguing with Graeme, then he refuses to retaliate and says I'm only grumpy coz of the time of month. Cue me angrily going "NO IT'S NOT, I am properly angry!!!!!....oh...wait.."

Bless you! My first experience with a tampon was more than stressful (I shan't go into details!!), but I assure you it is delightful once you get the hang of it. Was your mum's an applicator one? I'm back on non-applicator ones now because they're cheaper, but for the first few years I used applicator ones as they're so incredibly easy to use. I don't think they do the tampax mini anymore, but a tampax regular applicator tampon would be a good place to start if you ever feel brave enough to try again!

SUCH FUN =D

offlineforever 23-01-2013 08:45 PM

Don't you just love how grumpy you get the week beforehand??? I always ALWAYS have at least one argument with someone, usually over silly things, like tea towels!

If you're talking about tampax, then I think orange is just super plus. Lil-ets and a lot of supermarket own brands have super plus extra which are much more hardcore. My personal recommendation is ASDA super plus extra :)

All I know is falling. 23-01-2013 08:48 PM

I used to be too scared to use a tampon, so it used to be pads. But now I'm on the pill, which makes my periods so light that both tampons and pads seem ridiculous. So, I just use a liner. Which is kind of like a pad, but not as bad- I hardly notice it's there at all.

Stellata 23-01-2013 08:48 PM

Yeah, Katy. I totally need a badge to wear at work so the equally cranky customers leave me alone!

BridgesAndBalloons 23-01-2013 08:57 PM

I switch between using both, since being on contraception I only have light periods and using tampons can be uncomfortable, so I switch between tampons and pads.

Has anyone ever heard of vicarious menstruation? Basically bleeding from other areas at the same time as you have a period. I always have a nosebleed on the first day, I never have nosebleeds at any other time it's odd.

OneForSorrow 23-01-2013 09:58 PM

Oh wow never heard of that. I get super achey legs though, which is a right pain, they're soooo bad!
And can someone please tell me if a mooncup is worth it?! I thought you had to rinse them each time, but what if you're in a public bathroom, what do you do? And how many hours roughly is it between changes?

Amaranth 23-01-2013 10:08 PM

Tampons all the way :-)

Did buy a mooncup but my body refused to let it stay in the right place and kind of 'sucked' it up every time I wore it - I'm sure I must have looked pretty comical trying to take it out, but it was mucho uncomfortable!!!

Don't quote me on this, but I believe in public toilets people just bring a wee thing of water or wet wipes then give it a proper clean when they get home. And I think they need to be changed less frequently than tampons.

OneForSorrow 23-01-2013 10:14 PM

Ahhh okay, thank you. I know they're better for the environment, and cost a lot less, but I don't want to get one till I know more about them!

Poppers 23-01-2013 10:29 PM

A bit of both! Does anyone else really hate that time though? In the lead up to it I get a lower mood because I know it's coming, and I hatehate it for some reason, and it can't be over quick enough! I know noone likes them haha and it's probably PMS but it really gets to me?! Thank god for the pill, I used to dread them and to be honest I still do now.

Agree, pads are like nappies :| I still use them though!

Steel Maiden 23-01-2013 10:36 PM

I never figured out how to use a tampon.

Pads drive me insane and I'm considering to go on the Pill to stop my periods, but I don't know how to use tampons, so I have to use pads.
