Jaffa Cakes: Cakes, or biscuits?
Yes, the old conundrum. Are those little discs of tangy chocolatey joy in you opinion, cakes or biscuits?
I personally support the cake argument. They're made of cakey sponge, the go hard when stale and they're called Jaffa Cakes. So what do you think? :burger: |
Personally I've always classed them as cakes but in ASDA they put them in the biscuit section so I actually have no clue lol.
I always think of them as cakes too.
It went to court because choc-covered-biscuits pay vat, but choc-covered-cakes do not. The court ruled in mcvitie's favour, they are a cake. There are other bits on the biscuit aisle that are not biscuits such as fig rolls (pastry).
Cakes me thinks!
I think of them as biscuits, but it seems I'm in the minority!
Whatever they are, they are vile.
Biscuits go soft when stale, cakes go hard, Jaffa Cakes are indeed cakes.
Cakes!
Man, now I want jaffa cakes! |
...and which aisle are they on at Tesco?
BISCUIT aisle!!! |
Cakes, no question.
There should be a 'not quite biscuit, not quite cake but something inbetween' aisle.
I've never really noticed what an odd word 'aisle' is before
Cake.

I would say biscuit!
Just yummy, basically!
[And they do gluten free ones, yep.] |
Cake!
They are made of sponge and go hard when stale so they are cakes. |
There is no conundrum. They're cakes. The clue is in the name.
The British treasury spent a year investigating this in 2006 because if they were biscuits the company would have to pay more tax. They concluded that the Jaffa Cake is officially a cake. That's what the government says and, for once, I'm going to go with the government on this one. |
I still say biscuit. They are biscuit shaped and look and taste like biscuits. Plus cakes don't come in long boxes with lots inside.
I think of them as biscuits. Even if there is someone official somewhere saying they are cakes, to me they will always be biscuits.
I'm glad I'm not the only person who says biscuits any more! :P
They're not really either, to be honest. If I said I fancied a cake & someone brought me a jaffa, I think I'd be disappointed. If it were the other way around & I fancied a biscuit, I think I'd be pleasantly surprised with a jaffa. |
Oooh yes please RainbowDash!
I've tried the cocktail before, although it was called 'orange smartie.' I liked it! |

Aisle. Aisle. It's lost all meaning. Anyways. Jaffa Cakes must be cakes! |
I always go with biscuits.
I think of them as cakes. Omnomnom
Cakeyness is winning then!
