Replying to rants
Why can't I do this? Apparently I'm not logged in (which I am) or I don't have permission:confused:
Kiran xx |
The RV forum does not have the facility to allow replies. You can hug tho!
|
^ Indeed.
R/V was never meant for replies necessarily anyway, hugs can be given and PMs can be sent about it. :] x |
Also a lot of rant threads ended up like journals.
To combat this there is now a members journal section, where entries can be kept private or public. And they can also recieve comments. |
Ok thanks guys!

I was just wondering that too! Thanks x

thanks xxx

o i liked repleis to my rants
|
boohoo.
i think thats the one thing about v2 im going to miss the most. &the one thing i really really think should of not been changed on v3. |
As previsouly mentioned, Rants where never meant to ave replies. Some people just wanted to let off steam without others commenting/worrying ect.
Replies can be sent via pm. Or else threads can be made in general support or chat. The other option is to use journals to rant in and you can still recieve replies there. |
Everyone is free to Rant when they want replies in Serious - or you can post journal entries, be they public or private if you want replies. R and V was always meant to be somewhere where people to vent without the need for replies. Now there are more places and ways to get replies to rants, it seemed sensible to take that forum back to what it was always suposed to be

AA that totally and utterly sucks. I agree with linda. I think that is one of the things that shouldn't have been changed. Not that i like recieving them myself, but the odd few is nice. And i always love replying to rants <3. Sending PM'S just isn't the same when you are replying to a rant. I understand why you have done this and the purpose for it.That ranting isn't to get reply's just to let of steam and such but, i really do think you should have left replys on. *stops moaning* sorry. LOL.
|
If you want to let someone know that you read their rant and that you care, you can always use the hug button at the bottom right hand corner of their post.

i think its better now cus when ur pm ing someone, its easyier to honestly say what u think n be more kind n supportive n stuff.
Unless ur like me n cant remember quotes from the rant, hehe.that sucks a tad . =].chels x |
its just that the thing is. the majority of the people i know on this website [including myself] never ever post in serious. & always in r&v.
its just cosier. & i don't want any replies. but shrug. its nice to get some anyway, youknow. like. theres not really anybody *can* say to it. & thats why it goes in r&v. i know me complaining about it ain't gunna make a difference. but shrugg. i am a bit annoyed about it anyway. |
Well maybe now Serious will be used more. The only reason it probably wasnt as cosy was because it wasnt as fast moving as the other boards. There is the hug option anyway in R&V which sometimes can say alot more than a reply, sometimes its all thats needed.
|
well. there was a reason i didn't post in serious [ie. i wasn't expecting replies]. but then at the same time, i didn't want it just to die to the next page.
&lolz @ a hug saying more than a reply. imo, no way. |
The hugs aren't real.
I'm with Linda on this. |
Harley that's amazingly good idea.. sometimes it was tiring to get replies in rant/vent..
<3 |
Meeh Linda i'm still with you on this one. I deffinatly know what you mean about not posting in serious. I mean, i hardly ever post in serious (only if i have a question or what ever) so i always used to use the rant and vent board because i always thought that my "rants" don't belong in serious. They really arn't worth posting in serious. So there for i thought posting in the r&v forum what be a much better place for them with the off chance of someone replying, but i never really was bothered if no one replyed. Now i know i'm not going to get any replys. And i am greatful for the hugs and everything but i really do think replys were so much better. I can see that mixed people have mixed opinions on this situation but please Harley, please consider bringing them back. For the people like me and linda and juneau and many others that don't like posting in serious just to get one reply on a rant type thing. Just consider it pleeeeeeaaasseeee. *begs* haha
|
i think it was a good idea, cos the whole point of R+V is jsut to let off steam and let out emotions, and i hated the idea of one of my freinds on here reading my rant and replying so much that i created a seperate account jsut so i could rant undeteceted. And if u want replies, u can write a journel, then decides who gets to see it, so not the whole of RYL can read your journel rants, but ur friends can and they can reply. Also, PM's are great, more personal for replying to rants, and stopping replies in RV encorages both PMs and posts in serious.
meh, just my oppinion |
I can see both sides of this.
But I think it's a good idea. But I never ever posted in serious, I always felt like I was asking for attention, but I always feel like that whenever I accept or ask for help, it's why I'm so closed off but whatever, that's my own issues :| Anyway, I never liked replies to my rants so I'm not too bothered, I'll still use it occasionally. But yeah, there's always the other boards, and also the new journals thing, which I think seems cosier than the R&V board, and it also doesn't feel like you're asking for attention. But that could just be me being stupid feeling like that, lol. Well that was just a big ramble :/ |
It's pretty simple to me. If you don't want replies, post in R&V, if you do want replies, then post in Serious or your journal. You might not have posted much in serious on v2, but that doesn't mean you can't post there in v3.
As far as a hug saying more then a reply, 1/2 of the time in R&V in v2 all people replied with was *hugs* so there isn't much difference. AD |
Meehhh okay okay =P , i think i'll leave it as that.haha. I can see pleanty of people like it the way it is. I just wanted to let people know that i'm not happy with it thats all. But you know what,, what ever,, if thats what RYL has decided then that's what i've got to get use to i suppose. I apoligise for moaning =P LOL,, and have a great day people.

The fears expressed by you guys were voiced by some staff members when they first came in during testing - but as time passed they all grew to like it. It means you can post multiple times in your own thread, diary style and along with the other changes in the forum dynamics it should mean Serious is used for 'rants where someone doesn't need replies but would kinda like them' - there is after all a Rant label in Serious specifically because it is there for that.
I know it's annoying because it just happened to be that a bug in the forum created a comfortable niche space for some members, and I am sorry that has to end - but this way round is, I believe better long term. Harley |
*grumbles to self* =P Okay thanks Harley.

seeing as a every reply doesn't create the same reaction from the poster. ie. it's not as if, i'd want five hugs over one genuine reply. thats why i generally skipped over hugs, &just read any/all replies i would get that actually had words of support/consolence/etc. tbh. i don't mind hugs, like, i don't hate them or anything. i just think they're meaningless. i know r&v isn't going to be changed now. this isn't my forum. it's harley's choice. but yeah. |
how is a reply that only says *hugs* different then a list of people that have given you hugs the new way?
AD |
I like it, because I promised myself I wouldn't post in support forums any more, and that helps me with that.
But, yeah, I see why people miss it. I actually quite miss giving replies in R&V. I PM them now. |
Yeah, I think this is better, it sort of sorts out whats supposed to go where and such.
xoxox |
PMs are more personal, and I'd rather get one PM from someone than 5 posts, but yeah, I was against it at first, but I like it now.
|
I totally agree Chels, I think it is all a case of value. A pm is worth 5 replies which are worth 25 hugs. But in the end they all have their place, and help in there own way.
It is now alot quicker to PM people (just click on their name and choose PM from the drop down list) that it is nearly as fast as posting - so hopefully people will adopt that as a solid form of communication in such places. After all PM's are not only more supportive but are also more likely to help the development of friendships, which they themselves then become vital support mechanisms. Harley |

the majority of the replies i got were substancial replies, usually from my friends. those are the ones i'm gunna miss. not the lame hugs ones that i didn't even like on v2 to begin with. |
I prefare to get pms as well. More personal and you can keep them easier.
However, if you still like replies, how about maybe using the journals for your rants. Your friends can then still reply to you. |

It's something that has completly mixed opinions regarding it, and unfortunatly, not everybody would be happy all of the time. It's perfectly ok for you to talk about your concerns though, Linda - it's better than just keeping them all built up in an anti-RYL box somewhere in your brain :) xo |
I think it's better this way. I can understand the need to get replies to rants and vents but now members who want to actively support others will have one less forum to go through which should orientate the help towards Serious discussion which is definitely a good thing.
I can understand your trouble Linda, but maybe this will help you post in Serious and understand that your issues deserve some real attention in a place where you can actually get support. And the replies from your friends... I mean, if I see a rant from a friend, I usually would rather contact them directly on msn to talk with them. PMs can be just as good. And I'm sure your friends will substancially reply if you post in Serious too. Okay, late for class now :D Take care |
lol.
i dont mind superly or anything. it's fine. i'll have to make do with what i have, i know. this isn't my website. |
No, but keep inputting your thoughts, Linda. It's not your website, but let's face it, it would be a rather pointless website if there wern't any members...
:) xo |
