iPhone 4 call failed

Hey,
I just wandered if anyone has experienced the dreaded words of 'Call Failed'. I did an update the other day and now everytime I try to ring anyone it says call failed. The worse part is the person on the other end sometimes get a missed call, so you don't know how many times you have got through.

If any of you have this problem What did you guys do? I have had my iPhone for nearly 2 years on the same network so I don't think it's a network problem as they have said everything is fine on there end?

Help!!
Thanks

RenewedHope 16-05-2012 06:52 PM

I get it on my 3gs sometimes
If I try calling again straight after (might need to try a couple of times) it usually works eventually
I think iPhones just like to be annoying and temperamental sometimes ¬_¬

random.swirls 16-05-2012 09:28 PM

Have you turned your phone on or off?

Fire Fly 16-05-2012 09:30 PM

Thanks for the replies Yep I have turned it off and on.

squirrelspit 16-05-2012 09:32 PM

was it the iOS 5.1.1 update? so many people i know have updated their phone to that and have suddenly not been able to use loads of the features.

Fire Fly 16-05-2012 09:49 PM

Yeah it is :/ God this is so frustrating! Thanks for replying :). Hopefully Apple will release a new update to sort this out.

RenewedHope 17-05-2012 12:37 PM

Oh no, I hope it's not that update. I got that update yesterday after putting it off for ages :/
Haven't tried making calls since >.<

Rockyb_123 17-05-2012 12:52 PM

Take it to the Apple store, their customer service is really good, I know somebody who took theirs in and got a new phone, practically no questions asked.
I have a 4 and haven't had any problems with the update, so I guess it's just certain ones?

Fire Fly 17-05-2012 01:51 PM

There customer service is really rubbish when the 1 year guarantee finishes grr. And then they charge a fortune to fix the problem.

Went to Vodafone today there claim is 'could be the sim or could be the phone'. We will give u a new sim but it's probably your iPhone as its very old now!!

I was like whaaat it's not even two years old. Grr. DON'T GET THE UPDATE!!!

Rockyb_123 17-05-2012 04:01 PM

I and loads of my friends have the update with no problems.
I know one of my mates just took in their 4 and it was out of the year guarantee and they just said they kept getting signal gate problems and they switched it without checking it! (He said that but really he had a scratch on the screen and didn't want to pay to get it repaired...Sly!)

Maybe give it a try. Before I got my new one, my old white MacBook had cracks all over it's casing like where your wrists go and it was 4 year old at this point and Apple replaced the whole casing for nothing.

RenewedHope 17-05-2012 04:09 PM

My screen cracked on my iPhone last year (I was silly and dropped it) and it was still in the warranty and everything and I phoned Apple. They didn't even ask if I'd dropped it or anything, just wanted to charge me more than the price of a new iPhone to fix it.
I don't rate their customer service at all :/
But I guess different people have different experiences with it

Rockyb_123 17-05-2012 06:28 PM

True, it's the same with anything really I guess, good and bad depending on the person you deal with etc.
I suppose it won't hurt to give it a go.
But to be honest the only way to go back to an older iOS is jail breaking as far as I'm aware. Which is illegal and therefore I shaln't condone it.
I don't know why people do it anyway, the interface is SO PRETTY :D

RenewedHope 17-05-2012 07:50 PM

Doing a full restore might work but I'd never risk that because it wipes everything :/

Rockyb_123 17-05-2012 09:33 PM

Surely a full restore wouldn't work though because when you re-sync all your stuff after returning it to factory settings the backup of your phone would have 5.1.1 OS on?

random.swirls 17-05-2012 11:41 PM

So I've just got the I phone 4s do I do the update or not?

random.swirls 18-05-2012 01:17 PM

Ive done it do fingers crossed!!!

Has your phone started working yet

RenewedHope 18-05-2012 03:31 PM

My calls are still working fine after doing the update.
I kept calling my mum to check it was working xD

sajhfuahuefghaeg 19-05-2012 12:35 PM

Don't buy an iPhone.

Rockyb_123 19-05-2012 05:15 PM

Helpful advice. Much wiser words would be "Don't buy an HTC, shy away from Blackberries and don't get anything running Android unless it's high spec."

GlitterTrashDoll 19-05-2012 06:10 PM

I just got the update and my phone is fine.

Leo Pard 20-05-2012 03:26 PM

I would have to agree with Tiff*.
My crackberry is awesome. Never fecks up or anything. :]

sajhfuahuefghaeg 20-05-2012 03:36 PM

My crackberry hasn't died yet, I am very impressed.

GlitterTrashDoll 20-05-2012 05:23 PM

I switched from a blackberry to an iPhone. My blackberry was the worst! In the time it took to write a short message, I lost signal 4 times and it froze 6 times. :/

sajhfuahuefghaeg 20-05-2012 05:27 PM

Really? I've had nothing wrong with mine and am really pleased with it - though it is the 9900 so maybe they've fixed whatever was wrong with it.

GlitterTrashDoll 20-05-2012 05:29 PM

I had the curve for almost 2 years, and I had no problems with that.

Then in October I got the 9900 and had no end of problems! Apart from losing signal and constant freezing, it would turn itself off randomly and then wouldn't turn back on for like 10 minutes! I had no end of problems with it.

Leo Pard 20-05-2012 06:26 PM

I have a curve somethingsomething and I have had the same one for just over 2 years and have never had any problems. I think it has frozen once or twice within two years so yeah.

sajhfuahuefghaeg 20-05-2012 06:36 PM

Wow Amy, that's so weird! I've had no probems with mine whatsoever, always had signal, everything always works....

*touches wood*

GlitterTrashDoll 20-05-2012 07:06 PM

I know! I know a fair few people who have them and have had no problems, I think I just must have got a faulty one or something!

Tig 20-05-2012 07:10 PM

I have had this happen to me a few times, although a couple of times I think it's been when somebody has been trying to call me at the same time.

The other annoying thing that keeps happening to me is my phone going straight to answerphone even though I've got full signal. It only does it occasionally but usually with somebody important who I can't actually ring back!!!
