What do you call ....
What do you call the thing you change the tv channels with? It's just we call it the pressy button and I just realised that's a bit of an odd name.
So now I'm curious! |
remote control :P x
|
Dobber or remote lol
ive only just realised a few months ago dobber is a strange word for it |
It's a remote [control], of course.
|
We call it the zapper in our house.
|
Remote.
I've heard a friend call it the clicker. |
Controls. :p
|
remote
|
Remote, or just the buttons.

The remote.

Remote.
or Mine! |
The remote control.
'Dobber' is a word???? |
I grew up seriously thinking it was called a "bibber".
Many humiliating moments later, I now almost always manage to call it the remote instead. Thanks parents. Lol. |
Remote
|
Remote control, or remote or control for short. That is the proper way!
|
Remote.
My friend calls it a clicker though. Weird. -.- |
We called it 'The Gun' in our house. :U

omg i thought only our house used the word dobber... |
Remote or clicker.
|
remote, hoofer doofer or doobrey.
However mostly its just some random pointing and waiving in its general direction with accompanying wierd grunt noises. |
the buttons.
:) |
I'm so pleased there are other words for it. I seriously thought our family was just a bit weird.

I asked my flatmates! In my house we generally call it the controller, or the fat controller.
One of my flatmates calls it the buttons, another calls it the 'mote and the other said she'd never thought about it, but probably just the remote. It's weird how such a simple thing has so many names! |

I call it the zapper or the whatsit. |
we call it war or peace.
sometimes it is war to change the channel, sometimes it is peace. so I declare can I have "war"... means I want to change it because I dont like whats on. So I ask...can I have "peace"...means we all groan because of what is on and no one will mind if it is changed |
Remote/remote control.
I like the name Dobber though! |
Channel changer..
|
Remote [control]
My mum used to call it a 'hoofah-doofah'... apparently it came from an 80s programme... |
It's either the remote/remote control or the clicker in my house.

I'm genuinely amazed.
I had no idea that calling it the 'gadget' wasn't common. O_O |
Remote or controller. I've heard a lot of people in our area call it a clicker.
|
We call it either the clicker, or the remote. It depends on the day, and the time, and the season, and pretty much whatever word comes to mind first when the person who is going to say something about it goes to say something about it. lol.
|
Controller
|
Why clicker? It doesn't click?
Remote. |
I grew up calling it remote,
but its "the box" where I live now. |
Quote:
did you grow up in my house or something? exactly this in our house |
'Remote control' or 'the thing.' :P
|

It is most definitely the zapper in my house! |
The box, always been known as the box and people think I'm so strange for it.
|
So my family is definitely the only one that refers to it as "the winky" then? Yeah... I know, don't ask me. It's always been that way. When you change the channel you "wink over". God knows...

|
Um...I'm from about as far South as you can go before falling into the sea... I'll be the 'outlier!'
|

WHAT??? I used to call my Willy a Winky when i was a little boy. Im OMFG'ing Out Loud! |

Yep, I know... very odd. But it makes perfect sense when it's what you've always said! No idea how it came about... To me, Buttons/Zapper/Doofer etc all sound quite ridiculous! :p |
Anyone else call it 'the flicker'?
Fond memories of my grandparents Granda: DIAAANEEE WHERE'S THE BLOODY FLICKER?! Gran: Johnboy there's no need to shout! It's right where you left it! :D I call it a flicker at their house, just the control at my own! |
Flicker, Clicker or Controller
