For every who has to work with membors of the public!
Ok i dont know wether this should go in the rant bit or here,so feel free to move it!
Right this thread is for all those people who have to deal with rude customers!! I wanna hear your stories!!! Heres mine..... I work in a jumper shop... Customer walks in ME: Hello there. *no response* ME slightly louder :Hello HER: Yes I heard you the first time i just dont like to talk to the (she did the bunny marks) 'Help!' ME: *shocked!* I sometimes think people go out of thier way to be rude to you! P.S i know ive spelt half of the title wrong.......having a off day lol. |
or customers that come into mcdonalds and ask for like, a summer menu, or th e99p menu, which is loads of options, then wheni ask them what they want, they say again 'the 99p menu'
or when i put things through and its grill orders or something, and they want something else... customers are arseholes at times... |
yeah i work in a supermarket, i get bad customers all the time
from drunks to old people who cant understand a word i'm saying its even better when people ask me if i work there, even tho i'm standing in front of them in full uniform.....everytime someone says that i always wanna say "no i'm an asda spy....shhh dont tell anyone..." then run off and pretend i'm looking for clues lol |

I'm probably going back to McDonald's soon. Oh joy. |
Someone asked our barmaid what chicken breast was... so she decided to grab her boobs and make chicken noises infront of everyone...
also what is the difference between chips and potatoes? and then drunk people in the bar... falling asleep, wandering off half way through ordering drinks... or the latest one was "can i look at your snoozle?"- meaning my nose :| the nasty drunks are the worst though |
Yeah sometimes we get bad customers and its annoying as 'the customer is always right'.
I just let it go over my head though at the end of the day. |
i had a lady who was unloading her trolley onto the empty belt and a gentleman (i use the term loosely) came infront of her shopping, ordered me to stop the belt and started unloading his basket into the empty gap on the belt. i just put his stuff to one side and carried on serving the lady.
also you get all sorts of horrible people when you refuse to sell alcohol, DVDs, games etc that are clearly for underage kids and therefore is illegal to sell. i don't think they realise that if trading standards caught them that they get a fine too. i'm sick of 'if i want to give my child a drink then that is my right as a parent', yes it is your right, it is however illegal to buy the alcohol to give to your child. So give your child alcohol, but you can't buy it - it's illegal. grrrr |
We had annoying women. The downstairs till was closed so I asked her to pay upstairs ( which is on the way out of the shop anyway) and she slams her goods down and demands to pay upstairs telling the manager I said she couldn't manager was nice though.
|
haha, i had a ****ing chav complaining to me a on tuesday night (he was like 10) that he didnt want him flurry cos it had sauce crap in it. i was like, it shows that in the pictures, take it or leave it, you arent getting another one
a deaf customer shouted at us once cos a manager didnt come instantly to her and she wasnt getting her food cos teh person was getting the order before hers ready and she hadnt paid cos she hadnt put her card in te card reader they are so ****ing dumb at times (im looking forward to that in 25 hours i sepnd 17 of them in mcdonalds from 4pm tomorrow... |
I work with tourists and some of them are just really so stupid.
The other week I got asked "What's a bus?" and yeah, bus is pretty much the same thing in most languages. But we do get a fair amount of really angry people. And they get even more annoyed when you don't speak their language. Worst I've ever had was a Russian guy who came in and started shouting at me, in Russian, because we didn't sell a book in Russian. |
I work on the phone doing tech support for internet customers. And I have seen the best and the worst! People are just so ignorant. And, they assume I AM the company I work for. . .no. . .I work for them! It doesn't mean I have the CEO's home phone number for crying out loud!
Argh. . .too angry to describe right now, but people just seriously suck to tech support sometimes. next time you personaly call them, try and remember that they're people too :-p |
this happened like 4 years ago and it still makes me mad. i was working for a rental car company and was going over some of the legal stuff with the customer.
me: and is this lovely woman your wife? customer: yes. well i guess you gotta ask that now with men marrying men and women marrying women. i think people like that should be filling holes in the ground. if i was not working i would have knocked his fat ass out right then and there. that is my f**kin family and best friends. |
I once worked for a call centre, doing customer service for a mobile phone company and I talked to some really rude people.
One woman was obviously under suspision of having an affair and her partner tried to make me give him every single number on the call history of the phone, which we actually don't have to do, and as it wasn't his account, I couldn't anyway, and he tried to complain about me for being incompetent! There was also the guy who called me up to say he'd topped up his phone this morning and the credit was all gone, when I calculated the cost of his calls and texts for the day it came to £10.34, and had mostly been text messages, he point blank refused to admit he'd spent the credit, even when i asked if there was anyone else who could have used his phone, and explained that I had every number he'd text, and some of the numbers were adult text services that cost quite a bit. He hung up on me. |
Urgh customers can be so horrible! Yesterday I served so many rude people, is it that hard to say please and thank you?!
One woman didn't give me the right money and when I said that I needed another 10p started ranting at me that it was right and that I wouldn't beat her at maths, she could do it in her head, so I counted it out loud in front of her which soon shut her up. Had someone else ring up and start shouting at me down the phone that she's paid for her shopping but the man serving her hadn't given it to her, when I said I thought she had the wrong shop she carried on shouting that she knew which shop it was untill I eventually managed to get in that there were two of us working today and we were both women, she said oh and hung up. |
we have randoms do that last bit to us aswell
there is a little kid (a hoodie) that appparently comes in every sunday (or quite often anyways) trying to get a free mcflurry by claiming that he paid for one and didnt get it, so we ask him which till he was served on and a lot of the time he cant remember or picks a till which hasnt been used for several hours *giggles* |
^ ha ha
i jus rember people swearing at you becasue some items sell out really quickly, i mean its not our fault if an item sells out. |
theres concessions in the shop that have different returns policys, but the customers are all "but i paid for it at a debenhams till", yes but its still a *insert other shops name* item so i cant return it by our policy... "but i bought it here, at this till" no matter how many times you explain, they dont listen, cause they bought it at that till, so i have to return it in that way.
customers suck, they dont realise that i actualy dont give a hoot if the shop makes or loses money, im just doing what im told to do - no need to shout a ty me, not my policy or items, i just ring it through the till. |
Quote:
Well i hope you told her that if she doesnt speak to the help she wont be getting any help. Stupid woman. |
good idea !
thank god i don't deal with rude customers but i deal with rude people the thread will have 200 pages if i'd post all the stories! |
Haha our shop may be the worst place for rude customers I mean its full of drunks, druggies and wee old complainin old people.
We have had one customer scream at the staff because they simply didnt know wot they usual was cos we had just all moved shop, another called the poeple on the shopfloor a bunch of trianed monkeys and then there are the ones who just swear at us on the checkouts. But i once had this guy who was stupid enough to put his clubcard jsut after the divider so i couldnt see it so when i lifted it it went under the belt. He just started screamin at me and sayin i had bewtter get it back but i had no idea how to get at it cos it was only my second day in the shop and thats when he started on at me... he went "you are nothin but a JOKE!!" I replied "DONT U EVER CALL ME A JOKE AGAIN" he looked a little startled and went " ur here to serve me not shout at me" i then said " its not my fault ur clubcard went under there u didnt even tell me it was there and I am servin u I have just packed ur bags havent i?" he just growled at me handed over his money and left after that and when I told my team leader wot had happened she was all proud of me cos i had stood up for myself which was a bit of a first lol |
If you want to talk to weird people, try being on the phone line of a taxi company. You really get all sorts o_O My all-time favourite was this fellow -
[man] - "I want to go home. Need a car." (2 am, boy was that guy drunk) [me] - "Alright, where are you currently?" [man] - "Outside." [me] - o_O "Outside...where?" [man] - "Of the party, damn it. I'm (insert first name), I called last week too." ...and went on to insult me. I never knew we were supposed to be mind-readers :P Seriously, there's all the jokes about drunk people not knowing where they are, but they're based on truth. Also nice was the woman who called to yell at me because she thought we had brought her husband to... ah.. a place where love has a price tag. Gotta love people who let out their anger on strangers! On the other hand, there was this lovely old lady who called every other day just to talk for a while :-D Too bad we weren't paid extra for telephone counselling. *shuts up now* |
i'm gonna do a twist on this and tell you about when i was the rude customer.
i booked a taxi home from a pub in the winter, usual firm, usual time 12:45am. so i'm waiting now, it's freezing cold, i didn't bring a coat. at 1am i ring them up and say that i'm freezing my knockers off. he reckoned i'd booked the taxi for 12:15am and coz i wasn't there he has gone home again. the fact i ordered it as twelve forty five (not a quarter to - incase of confusion), then i said no, you must have written it wrong, he swore at me so i shouted at him and hung up. we were left for 4hours, after closing time, freezing cold, waiting for the first available taxi. was so not funny. grrrrrr |
^^ nasty
I work in a 'super' market and I have had so many rude customers, once a lady shouted at me because a bottle of disinfectant was leaking, she slammed it in front of me, screamed her head off, moaned about the beeping noise the tills made, said all sorts of things that I cant possibly repeat, then walked off. I was gobsmacked, the person behind her offered to give me a hug because I had tears in my eyes and I looked so shocked. My supervisor let me have a break and told me to write it all down with a description of the woman. o.O so yeah I get all the crap where I am, and dont get me started on refusing alcohol... |
I work in a supermarket and I get abuse all the time. Mostly when I refuse to sell someone alcohol/cigerettes etc or when I tell them that they have to pay for thier gas/electricity by cash cos we don't accept cards for it. & then they say "Well I came in yesterday and paid on card!" Well it wasn't here then, cos we don't accept them, the till won't let us.
Tonight I had some woman come in at 7.45 and ask for a lucky dip on the lotto. I explained that the lotto ends at 7.30 and she then shouted at me that I was lying because I couldn't be bothered to serve her. Thankfully my supervisor was just behind me at the time and managed to convince her I wasnt lying. I let most of it go over my head and just smile and be polite, if somebody is so angry that they have to come in and try to make my day hell then that's a bit sad really. What does annoy me though is when people come into the store at five to eight (we close at eight) with a trolley. Especially when it's the same people everynight. We close at eight EVERY night, have you not learnt that yet?! |
*post was pointless*
|
tell them you got sickness/diahorrea and couldn't come away from the bathroom/sleeping long enough to call, you were so ill you didn't really realise you were missing work.
i saw a girl in work today serve 2 lads who had been drinking, she was concentrating on their ID's rather than their faces/state they were in. so they pay and then they both open a bottle, so i said to them 'excuse me, you're not allowed to drink in store, or on the premesis because our license doesn't cover consumption of alcohol. so they put the lids on and walked out, apparently they were drinking outside so the manager had to chase em off. alcohol sales suck. i think we should have microchips inplanted as a baby and if you're old enough, you scan your chip and walk through a turnstile into the alcohol section, and pay in the aisle. then you don't get shop lifters coz you would have to scan your receipt to get back out, and it would be their responsibility if they gave it to minors, because clearly when they were sold it, all customers were 18+ i *hate* age restricted products. |
I used to work in my local tesco express store. It was crap but convenient as the shop is literally one minute from my house. God i have so many stories of awful customers
1 - "I just bought this ice cream 10 minutes ago and i want another one because it looks like its been half eaten and its all melted" WTF. Ice creams melt in the time they are out of the freezer when a it is being stocked. 5 - 10 minutes in a 25 degree heat does melt ice cream. I refused but the manager (who was a wanker) came over and told him to take another one. Mad. The only reason the ice cream looked half eaten was because he had just eaten half of it. 2 - Drunk woman. She piles her shopping in the basket and i start to ring it through, Then wheres X item? I direct her. She couldnt find half of what she wanted so asks me, goes off to get it, brings it back, asks for the next item. And while she is going that the queue is getting long and inpatient as we are short staffed and there is only 1 other till open (there were only 4 tills anyway). Then she would always ask a young person to carry her shopping home for her. I always asked said young person if they knew her, when they said they didnt, i advised them to go. I met that lady in the loony bin so didnt want 13 year old carrying shopping to her home. 3 - You refused to servce my son alcohol. He came in, i asked for ID (he looked under 21 so i have to). he didnt have any, i call the manager who also want to see ID. Manager tells me not to serve him. I dont, he leaves. Later in the day he comes back in with his mum. She started swearing at me. "How ****ing old does he look? How old are you, does he look younger than you?" i say that my age is irrelavent, that my manager also wanted to see ID. She carrys on swearing at me while i scan the rest of her shopping, buy the alcohol for him (i couldnt stop that) and it really bitchy to me when she sees me after that. Then there was the woman who stank off piss and sweat and other foul things and whose credit/ debit cards NEVER worked. Thank god i dont work there anymore. I cant work at all at the moment. I also had strops from moody teenagers because i wont give them any fags. I dont want to get fined. |
I remember my first job in Toys R US (almost 10yrs ago now!!!!) It was when Pokemon where in fashion. It was last thing at night at Christmas time and I was tidying up. This old man with stinky breath came up to me and asked if we had a Pokemon something and we didnt. He spent 10 minutes yelling in my face about how crap we where. I asked him if he would like to speak to a manager as I was only temporary and he spent another 10 minutes ranting about how crap the managers where. I was 16 at the time and well I have never been rude since. BTW Toys R US is crap and the manager one day started to yell at all the customers. Ive never been rude to anyone ever due to that experience.

Roo, actually, you *could* have refused his mother the alcohol on the grounds that you had reasonable doubt that it wasn't for herself, but for someone who had failed to show ID. In morrisons they would be refused, but also we could refuse them on the grounds that they were associated with someone who had been refused. The only way round it is to sort the reason why they were refused (ie bring ID, come in sober etc).
The law now states that it is an offence to buy (and serve) alcohol intended for a minor. This makes it illegal for parents to buy alcohol for their kids. The law is actually changing again to make it illegal to give your children alcohol under a certain age, this is to clear the confusion there is now. Right now a parent has the right to give their child alcohol, but it is illegal to buy that alcohol for them. mand x |

I'm a waitress at a 4 1/2 star resort. I had this table one time, and the guy literally just shouted his order at me as I would walk by. Say,if I was ging to another table, all I'd hear from him was "Vanilla ice cream!"with a hand waving at me.
Or there are the tables that order 50 bagillion sundaes, and we have to make them ourselves....grrr... or the ones where you work really hard but they don't tip you a dime for an entire week of service... and the peoplewho just sit and talk for an hour after they're finished, and you have to miss eating you're own breakfast because of it. |
Well currently working as a manager at McDonald's not calling in for your shift wouldbe a no call, no show on your record which would be a write up (which equals not good btw)
and I didnt know that sitting and talking after your meal was rude to the wait staff *is being completely honest here* why is that? Sarai |

I was just wondering why you thought that they were stupid for leaving the messages, though? Especially if, as you say, a lot of people did it yesterday - I work in a chemist, and there is nothing more frustrating than when staff members who are contracted to come into work, don't - and don't even give any explanation. |

kinda telling me the store address and that it was where i was employed etc... like i need to be reminded that i work at that hell hole... but whatever, just drop it cos i cba anymore...
and yea, but I earned a warning for cash last night anyways (for having £9.72 missing from my till) |
Quote:
well The manager shouldnt have gave the man the ice cream as they are basically trained to back you although they will have probably done it to stop all hell breaking loose and to stop giving themselves a hard time which is crap lol Quote:
Did u know you could have refused to still serve the woman because she was in with someone who had already been refused alcohol that day??? I didnt know this but it happened to one of my team leaders and when he got told that someone who was going through his till was refused earlier in the day, he still couldnt sell the alcohol to them even though the guy was in with one of his parents. Its incase they just grabbed any old person off the street and got themt o pretend they were thier parent. sorry i work in tescos and my mum works in the customer services and Im very friendly with my managers so I kinda know some of the ground rules lol |
I work in Argos - and I am either on Customer Service or Jewlery.
I've been working there nearly a year, but have worked in Tesco as well. In tesco, I was a PI Operator - checking and changing of prices - so I was the one who was called down when the price was done, to aplogise and sort it all out. There was this woman, who actually kicked one the shelves, shouted at me, then left. Over a bag been in the wrong place... Argos, I swear, we have the rudest customers on earth. Beacuse it's my fault that the warehouse has no stock. Or that they dropped their phone down a flight of stairs...honestly. But in the end, 'the customer is always right'. |
i'mn a paper girl and i'll never forget once. It was my first week starting out and they gave me a trolly for saturday papers i fell and tripped onto the trolly thinking i had broke it i went to knock on the door of the hose to see if he could help i got "what u fricken expect me to do about it your just a girl who delivers my paper i don't pay u to fix things!
|
Customers that come to the IT desk where I used to work - different library to now - and just shove their library card in my face. If I was lucky they would say "Internet!"
and? They're still at it where I work now, but not quite so abrupt, and I usually ask them what they want. Like, put it in words. With please would be nice. I have to admit I've been rude to checkout assistants in supermarkets before. But that's because I'm agoraphobic and just want to get the hell out of there so that I can breathe! |
Quote:
I work in a card shop and often get people coming in who say "I want a card" like they expect me to know what type of card they want. |
also with the alcohol thing, it wouldnt matter if they could prove they were with their parents, it's still illegal for their parents to buy the alcohol.
|
This kid infront of me today in Tesco's, was trying to buy alcohol, and it was clear he wasn't 21 or whatever, so the lady who was serving him asked for ID, he said he didn't have one, so she said she couldn't serve him. He had a right old go at her, shouting and swearing, so I poked him on the shoulder, and said, 'Look, she's not going to serve you, go put it back, stop being such a retard, and go home.'
He looked at me like I was an ogre or something, hurled a load of abuse at me, and walked off. The serving lady gave me a hug and said thank you. ....So, yes, I Don't even work there. *grins* |
Shops suck.
I hated thoese people who where in a rush and want to by-pass the que. One women was like in a rush, juped to my till and said her:"can i jus leave the money for this?" me: "erm no i have to put it throught the till" her:" well do it now" Me:"erm no theres a que, you have to wait like everyone else" Her:"FFS...*lots of swearing and huffing*" She gets to my till throws the money at me and storms off. FFS if you buy something in a shop you have to wait in a que, no one gets specail treatment. Ugh then theres the people who INSIST on opening things up in the shop, its like umm sorry you cant do that. |
