HopeRises 15-02-2010 11:22 PM

Starless 15-02-2010 11:23 PM

random.swirls 15-02-2010 11:26 PM

It's Shrove Tuesday aka Pancake Day

Eeeep, pancake day :)
Bought some pancake mix today.
And NUTELLA- I am hoping that doesn't make it too sickly...

Starless 15-02-2010 11:36 PM

Haha I've never heard of pancake day.
It sounds awesome!

random.swirls 15-02-2010 11:42 PM

Jelly - hello and I got there first cause I'm awesome!

How have you never heard of pancake day before?!?! It's like one of the best days of the year and it's the day before lent!

Rodolphus 15-02-2010 11:44 PM

It really annoys me that I can't eat them.
They always smell amazing.

I'll make them for my Dad though :)

Hannah Montana 15-02-2010 11:45 PM

I'm having some friends over and my mum is going to make pancakes for everyone! Its an excuse to eat some rubbish before I give up sweet things for lent :)

Intaytia 15-02-2010 11:56 PM

We've never had pancakes on Pancake Day =[
Mum doesn't like them, so she won't cook them, and I'm just too useless to try.

Really want one now though!

Why can't you eat them? =O

Fry 16-02-2010 12:22 AM

that photo of those pancakes looks a bit too perfect heh heh.
i can't eat them either unless they're wheat free which would be possible but not much point making the effort on my own..

Westman 16-02-2010 12:31 AM

It's strange that people especially buy ingredients, the idea is to use up what you already have at the start of lent. Another festival hijacked by commercialism I suppose. :(

that's very true. or another festival reduced to mostly just being about food.

PrincessVegeta_x 16-02-2010 12:36 AM

We had ours tonight because we're not going to be at home tomorrow (traveling so won't be able to make them)... and my parents said my teeth would fall out! I had syrup, sugar, lemon juice and lime juice on my pancakes. Sugar-induced coma!
:tongue2:

My_Name_Is_Aiden 16-02-2010 12:47 AM

My housemate wants to make panckaes
she loves to cook

They have too much/many eggs in them.
I'm quite intolerant, so they make me ill D:

They smell so, so good.
As do omelettes.

ειмσ 16-02-2010 01:15 AM

I work in a shop, and we've never sold so many lemons in one day before!
I love pancake day. Any day dedicated to food is fine by me :D

Starless 16-02-2010 02:31 AM

I probably haven't ever heard of pancake day cause I live in Canada.
And as far as I'm concerned pancakes don't get their own special day here.
I haven't had pancakes in ages, now I want some!

x-dying-inside-x 16-02-2010 02:33 AM

i cant wait for later on so i can make pancakes for breakfast!

Sophie16 16-02-2010 05:22 AM

Nommy pancakes =D

I'm hopefully getting some at Ghost in Snow's house tomorrow =]

Marie: Pancake Recipe Without Eggs
  • 2 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/2 pint milk
  • A pinch of salt
Procedure
Take a large bowl and mix flour, sugar, and salt in it. Make a batter by adding in gradual amount of milk. Do not let the clots form. Keep on beating the mixture for at least ten minutes. While beating, add the melted butter to it and beat it again. Leave the mixture to set for 10 minutes and bake them individually on a griddle. Add a layer of maple syrup between each of the pancakes and serve!

^_^

Jefferson.Meriwether 16-02-2010 12:30 PM

Woohoo, Pancake Day :-). I'm sooooo looking forward to having a few for tea tonight. When I was in primary school I also used to look forward to the next day as we'd always had an unofficial competition to see who'd eaten the most, there was always someone wh had eaten more than me.

Or rather times have moved on and we don't give up those ingredients any more...we give up other things to show our thankfulness instead?

I really love you.

Imma try and make some later.

Lucius. 16-02-2010 01:23 PM

Yay! You're welcome! =]

Let me know how they go. =D

Ampelmann 16-02-2010 03:23 PM

I've just remembered that if you make too many pancakes you can freeze them (put a piece of greaseproof paper between each one) :)

GlitterandSparkles. 16-02-2010 03:37 PM

A whole day devoted to pancakes 0-o how odd! lol

&& I have never heard of anybody putting lemon or lime juice on pancakes before ahaha!

PrincessVegeta_x 16-02-2010 03:42 PM

^
Lemon juice and sugar is probably the most widely used 'topping' for sweet pancakes. It's nice because it's not too sharp and not too sweet... perfect... and the sugar melts a bit too if you put it on immediately after cooking the pancake. My dad works in ASDA and he says they sell more lemon and lime juice at this time of year than they do any other time!

I want some more now but I had too many last night!

Yes!

I don't especially like them but I make them for me and my dad every year and I'll have a small one. Any more than that is too much I think.

Anyhoos, my parents have bough the ready made type mixes, haha.
If it was just me, I'd make them myself, but I don't think anyone else would eat homemade ones for some reason

Well yeah, but I was thinking more of the tradition in it than the now commercialised aspect. =P

I usually eat home made ones, but I make them all year round so it's not exactly a big thing. Andddd, I love pancakes.

I love pancakes so much.
