I hated being preggy i felt like my body was being over taken by Aliens.

Mandimoo 07-06-2008 01:05 AM

She had her first jabs today,
the health visitors (all 4) shouted at me for giving her calpol without asking them first (erm she's my baby!) despite me following the instructions and clutching a prescription for calpol that the dr had just given me! They say she isnt teething - even though her gums are now red and swollen on top of the rash, fever, chewing, dribbling and bowel problems.

I'm not going to clinic with her again, i'll take her to the surgery for her booster jabs instead. I told them that she is still crying upto 12hrs a day (with breaks) and actually screaming with pain. THey said 'she might be hungry' - she's putting on 1/2 a lb a week and by now i think i'd know the difference in her cries - its hard to miss the screaming in pain - its rather obvious.

The GP said the gripe water might be causing her problems. because she was a few weeks early, the bowel might not be contrating properly to push waste through, so giving an anti-spasmodic on top of that could be causing her problems. he's prescribed me colief instead to try.

Then he said give her 1 small spoon of calpol every 4hrs for5 2 days regardless of whether she needs it or not after each set of jabs. Then the Health visitor told me off for giving her the occasional dose of calpol (sometimes followed by the 2nd dose 6hrs or so later). Then the jabs lady told me to give her 1 spoon only if she needed it, then the pharmacy lady told me to give her 1 spoon anyway after her jabs and another after 6hrs only if she needed it. So 4different opinions there. We had a 9am appointment and we left finally at 11:25 - not impressed.

I hated how all the HV belittled me like i was an idiot. I might be a 1st time mum, but my parents aren't... they and anyone else who comes round when she cries all tell me that something isn't right. I dont like giving her a dummy, but she has one for travelling with. It doesnt actually solve the pain, all it does it make her choke while she's trying to scream around it. And the hunger thing... as i said, i think i'd know if it was a hungry cry. She cried for 2hrs straight whilst we were there and they dared to tell me that she was a settled baby. They only usually see her for 10mins and she rarely wakes from the car journey for them. For clinic i undress her and jut cover her in a blankie in the car, less hassle.

grrrr have spent most of the afternoon in tears at rock bottom, trying to console a screaming baby.

oh mand i didnt realise chloe was having such problems!!! i am not surprised you have been in tears if she is crying for 12 hours a day!!!!
is there anyone you can make a complaint to about these health visitors, because them shouting at you and making you feel small is the last thing you need!!! and yes she is your baby, you dont have to run everything by them first.
you do know the difference between her cries, and they should know that too - your doctor seems more clued up than those idiots.
theres not much i can do or say, i know how hard it is having a baby but mine doesnt cry quite so much as yours so my heart goes out to you hun.
try to get someone else to take her sometimes so you can get a break, or PND might appear.
im thinkin of you hun, big hugs!

charcoal feathers 07-06-2008 04:40 PM

Oh dear Mand, it doesn't sound like any of you are having a very fun time at the moment.
tbh, i think, you should just do what you feel is right. She is your daughter after all and they shouldn't have shouted at you, that's actually really unprofessional.
Hopefully the new stuff the doctor has prescribed will help her out a bit.
Take care

Mand, wont be on too long as other things on the go, but it sounds like something's really not right with Chloe, have reflux and intolerances been ruled out? What you're describing does sound awfully like an intolerance. Oh pet, that's so hard, have you tried Cry-Sis (or have they changed names?). What about carrying her, does that soothe her at all?

bigmouth 07-06-2008 09:56 PM

I was also going to suggest speaking to cry-sis, if you actually get through to speak to someone they can be really helpful. Other than that, don't be deterred by the health visitors attitude, they sound dire but you know little Chloe much better than them and so you should do what ever you think helps. As long as you sticjk to the instructions on medication it will be ok.
Take care Mand XXX

carrying her sometime works, but only i she is half-dangling down your back so her stomach is on your shoulder, constantly jiggling her bum up n down, walking and swaying at same time. then about 10mins later the pain will shift and she starts crying again.

yesterday she stopped crying. slept a lot. we think that could be from having the jabs done.

started colief today, its a dairy enzyme so hopefully rules out intollerances as a problem because it breaks down the lactose/lactase that causes the intolerance before she has the feed. you add it at least 30mins prior to feeding (if using warm milk/powder and water milk) or 4hrs if using feeds made up in advance (takes longer to work whilst in fridge).

today she has cried a lot longer than usual. that 12hrs is broken up a fair bit during the day. today she's cried for nearly 6hrs straight. did a huge fart and i think a bit of a runny tummy. could be the colief, could be the jabs, could be teething or could be because its been hot again today. last time it was hot all the bowel problems started. i'm feeling a lot better today. i just wont take her to clinic. she can be weighed etc when she has her jabs, but i wont be taking her for jabs either, matt or my mum can. if i have any problems with her i'll tak her to see a GP.

smoochy_lou 09-06-2008 10:31 PM

hey mand? how is baby? anybetter at all?

smoochy_lou 09-06-2008 10:46 PM

aww i cant wait til im at your stage!! i'm only 6 weeks gone so am just feeling sick with sore boobs all the time!!

Ragdoll 09-06-2008 10:56 PM

Lots of hugs to Mand xxx

Lou - urgh I hated the first 3 months and basically slept through them! Get properly fitted for a new bra, that was what helped my boobs the most, cos they were agonising at first.

I've now got boobs so big that they've started showing stretch marks *cries* I've been massaging stretchmark oil in (although not every day as I should) and got fitted for yet more new bras yesterday. I'm going to start sleeping in bras now too.

smoochy_lou 09-06-2008 11:16 PM

is it strange that ive always slept in bras? ive just changed over to an underwire one which feels more comfortable straight away, and ive got the stretch marks too!! i look as tho im 6 months pregnant not 6 weeks! i'm huge!!

I've heard that the stuff for stretchmarks is really good! keep perservering and jsut think of the bundle of joy you'll have at the end of it all!

I'm in a pickle with my pregnancy because the father wants nothing to do with us and has threatened to kill me so i'm slightly ashamed of walking round with a bump but at the same time feel a thril everytime a wave of nausea hits me (if that makes sense at all!!)

its all such a whirl wind at once!! but YAY for us and *hugs for mand* hope chloe feels better soon!

Mandimoo 10-06-2008 02:52 AM

you shouldnt be wearing an underwire bra during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

the wires can damage your breasts as they're developing inside still.

chloe is much better already, 2 days on the colief and all we've had is 1 bout of crying today for about 1hr before a dirty nappy and about 30mins afterwards. she's been really hot tho - spent all the evening in just a nappy, and drinking loads of water.

Colief is brilliant but costs about £10 for 7ml so ask your GP for it on prescription.

Well not long to go for me now it seems. This pregnancy has flown by but I think that's because Milliemoo keeps me on my feet now she's crawling, rolling ,walking if you hold her hands and eating everything and anything. Nothing is sacred anymore !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope all you pregnant mummies are keeping well.......it's only for 40 weeks that you may feel pants :-p :-p

Congratulations to all you new mummies. For every sleepless night and bad nappy there is a 1st of everything to come and they certainly outweigh the bad.

Becoming a mum is the best thing that ever happened for me xxxxx

smoochy_lou 10-06-2008 10:01 AM

aww wow!! that fills me with hope!! i have my first ever appointment with the midwife tomoro and it all just still seems surreal!!

*(i meant from an underwired bra to a non wired bra)

Ragdoll 10-06-2008 01:02 PM

Lol Lou I took a second pregnancy test (despite three months of no periods and huuuge boobs) before my first scan because I couldn't believe it was real! A little voice kept telling me I'd get to the hospital and they'd think I was crazy cos there was no baby. Obviously it came back positive lol!

Pegward 10-06-2008 04:47 PM

I have 11 days left until my due date and bricking it!

Ragdoll 10-06-2008 05:26 PM

Good luck!!

Mandimoo 11-06-2008 12:49 AM

hehe the labour was easier than the pregnancy! nothing went to plan. all the expensive fruit n nut cerealy bar thing i bought for labour snacks went out the window. i wasnt allowed to eat anything. i wasn't gonna have an epidural. i had one about an hour and a half before i gave birth. my mum was gonna be there - she ended up working becuase when it came to it, i progressed so fast she wouldnt have made it in time!

i ended up there for 4 days instead of 24hrs. i ended up bottle feeding instead of breastfeeding. just go with the flow. if you want anything then ask for it. i asked for my own room and for a chair so hubby could stay over the last night - baby had jaundice and was under a mini0sunbed, i had no sleep for 4-5 days, i had baby blues and these stupid goggles kept coming off her face!

MammaMia 11-06-2008 01:04 AM

Good luck ^_^
