How long does the profanity ban in chat last for?

Oh Fi.... If I had seen this earlier. I did say just before you got kicked but you must not have seen. For everyone else.... profanity ban is 30 minutes long and is an automated ban.

Yeah I could.
But I was really annoyed.
And so bored.
Gah.

I really hope the chat software people listen to me and make it so that auto kick thing for repeated swearing doesn't apply to PM's, sa this is a real problem I do agree.

Sorry about that Fi, but at least you will know how to avoid it again!

I presume once you are warned you could simply log out of chat and back in again to start a 'new session' and therefore a new block of ten?

Obviously that trick doesnt work for warnings/bans etc - but I suspect that auto system could be fooled this way

theres an autokick for repeated swearing?!

Yes, it came with one - we are discussing switching it off, but it's a tough one to argue that we should allow members to swear more than ten times in a row... so it's taking a while to come to conclusions amongst the team!

The main problem with it, I think, is that there's no time limit, if you're in chat for 5 hours and you're pissed off at somethign so you go rant to poeple and you swear 8 or 9 times, then 4 hours later you swear again, you're ****ed, even after you've calmed down and whatever.
Maybe set a half hour time limit on it? or one hour? I dunno.

Plus, language should be free, and if it's censored, like it is, then what's the real problem?

*bump*

Is this going to be changed?

RYL members use chat when they are upset and often this may involve swearing but if you are mid convo and the warning pops up and you press enter then you are kicked straight away. I personally think the kick is not fair on members.Last night i was upset and i was in chat for a long period of time and by the timei noticed the warning it was too late as i had pressed enter, i then had to deal with what was going on without chat and i was lucky i had my BF with me but what would happen if someone was alone and upset?

the forums are not always quick at replying and Live Asssistance isnt always online either.is there any way that this can be changed to more swears or even change that if someone swears more than 20 times in a few minutes that they should be kicked or warned before hand and not kicked straight away?

do we really need the kick feature as the swears are filtered?

sorry if i do not make sense

You do make sense - I will make sure the chat mods take a look.... but personally I still think you can swear enough and if there is somethng terrible going on in your world, actually talkign about it is much more productive if you verbalise what *is* going on.

That is my opinion... but I'll remind the Chat Mods that we need to make a final decision - bear with us though as it's Easter and a family time for many.

I'm glad to see you brought this up here, Jane. :)

Yes, pointless reply.

i just dont understand why we even have it when swears are filtered? i can see why it would be needed in some chat rooms but if someone is annoyed or upset they are inclined to swear more and even if it is just twice in a row they can get kicked from chat if they have been in chat for hours which is the case for a lot of members.sometimes people just need to vent their feelings and that may mean swearing.

I agree with Jane - seeing as swear words are filtered, what's the point in having a boot?

Also, sometimes there just AREN'T the words that aren't swear words.

I agree that if there is a filter an auto ban is pointless, if someone is ************************** non stop then cant another member just report them, if there is a reason someone is swearing then thats fine, cos they may be angry, but I cant see a problem with swearing unless the *'s clog up the message log thingy.

Im rambling. heh

Hahaha, AGAIN, the Profanity Ban just came with the chat system. So, ask the people we bought chat off?

You ask them. You are the moderators :/
And don't laugh at people for continuing to ask, they're just expressing concern or whatever :|

We're working on it.

In the meantime, dont swear?

Will update here when its done. Unfortunately Harley is AWOL at the moment, so little i can do.

And relax dear. Its irritating, yes, but not worthy getting your blood pressure up over, nor are my chuckles of mild amusement.
