I have emailed the people guys but it is the weekend so don't get your hopes up of an early reply from them - although they are normally very quick.
So hopefully I should have a solution to you very soon.
It would actually be really handy if you could give me any info you guys have on your computers / browsers etc - let me know via PM and I will chuck you a link to another isntance of this chat and that will help us work out why it's doing this.
Don't worry - you'll be in soon!

By any chance have any of you updated Java Script? I know I can't get in to the chats and it's because I can't update Java Script.

Ok, this thread has actually been really helpful in working out why chat has been failing to load entirely for some people.
This isnt a solution for everyone - but more about that in a second.
If your username has any funny characters in it, chat is seemingly not liking it. Apostrpohies, tilde symbols (~ etc) and things like that might well be causing the issue.
If chat is failing to work and never has, and you have any other characters in your name then that is going to be why.
Java and Javascript both need to be working properly on your machines for chat to work too - I have emailed the company about these blank screens and I will post back as soon as I have a clue!
The server errors we know about, and we are doing work this evening to try and sort that out.
There is a new Request New Username feature in your control panels, underneath where you press edit profile and edit options etc.
If you have a name that isnt working with chat, request a new one (remove the ~'s etc) and we can then change them back in a few days time once I have got them to fix chat to work with these characters.
Again, please keep me posted on how things go. Any server errors etc do post as the times are really handy.
Do also bear in mind this evening RYL might go a bit funny as we have to lift the hood ;)

Ok guys,
For those who have a blue/black screen coming up and chat just has never loaded or worked - please go to the following address and let me know if it says that you don't have Java installed or if it needs upgrading.
Basically let me know if a pink box telling you it works fine doesn't display.
Thanks guys - don't worry I will track this one down!

Okay guys,
James has been working on some changes to the way the RYL server builds pages, and those changes are now done. It is seeming to us when watching the diagnostics and browsing the site to be fast and stable - but he cannot guarantee it will fix all the access violations - though we of course hope it does!
So PLEASE, if anything goes wrong from this point forward please let him know by posting in this thread or PMing him - stating what the error says!
Thanks so much all of you - we should hopefully iron everything out pretty quickly

Unless I'm missing something really obvious, I can't get into chat either. I can't even get past the beginning page (where you have to press the link to get into chat) - it just links back to the "Enter Chat" page.

Jo sorry that was me updating things - it works again fine now.
This blue screen thing is really confusing me. It works perfectly for almost everyone - and yet not for some. I have passed on as much info as I can to the chat software people, and they have asked me to get as much info about firewalls/operating systems/browsers that I can to try to help.
So for those getting Authentication Failed - you have the characters in your name problem.
For those with the Blue screen - I am still not sure but please give me as much info as possible about what computer you are on, what browser and how your internet works. Are you on a Uni network? Behind a firewall? Do you have internet security software installed? Things like that,
I am confident we will get these teething issues sorted very soon so don't worry :)
By the way - for those who can't get it to load (blue/black screen) try installing Safari quickly and just let me know if that works. Do a google search it will only take a couple of mins and I would be most grateful to know.
Thanks
Harley

Mighty odd, it really is. I can only imagine that it is some security setting or something... but it's so hard for me to work these things out because I didn't build the software!
I will pass things on to them and hope they might be able to shed some light on it...
I'm really sorry for the few of you who are getting let down by this. The intention of course was to move to an expensive chat system in the hope that it would be flawless. It soi nearly is, we just need to work out these few remaining things!
Okay, to give you something that might continue to help things further.
For those of you who get a Blue / Black screen ONLY (not authentication failed)
Please go to :
http://www.realchat.com/chat.php
And tell me if you can get their demo chat room to load for you, or does it react the same way as RYL's?
If you go into your internet options, then to Security and take the tab down to it's lowest setting / off - and try again... does that make any difference? Don't forget to put it back to where it was again afterwards :)
Thanks guys

Dazzle, as I keep trying to say, you have special characters in your name. This means you will NOT be able to use chat until you use another account without special characters, or change your name to remove them.
Your issue is not a chat bug, and is not the same as those saying they are getting a blue screen. The demo chat works because it uses another authentication system, there is no point explaining it's boring.
For everyone else, I might have something, or I might have nothing.
If you have no special characters in your name, and you get a blue or black screen when chat pops up, please go here and tell me if it says your flash plugin is up to date or whether it says it updated it.
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
Some parts of chat, I now find (again no damn help from the company about this, only buck passing) do use flash, and my thinking is that it would load the page but get stuck just as you have seen... so it might be totally wrong but let's see!
Thanks, please do test and let me know if you are having issues, the more people and info the better
Thanks

Do you know if you are behind any sort of firewall that could be blocking it, software computer protection or anything?
What browser version are you running (for those who don't know, you can always go to Help and About in the browsers top menu to see which version you have,
It would be really useful if everyone who is having this problem can help give me as much info as possible - as soon as we can see a pattern between the few of you that are having these issues, the sooner I will have you all in chat - but I can't figure it out without help!

Yup, this is the same thing. For everyone chat is lovely and perfect - except for you guys, and I am so, so sorry!
James is hopefully going to remote desktop into a machine that exhibits this behaviour and try and work it out for ourselves. I have stuck off all possible common issues like security level, firewall, software, plugins - and I am a bit lost to say the least! Even the chat company havn't got a clue (which I am not happy about) and offered to refund our money! That's no help at all of course so we might have to resort to finding a solution ourselves. Which we will, for sure, but without being able to recreate a problem yourself, it is really, really hard to sort something like this! As soon as we can access a machine that acts like this I am confident we will find the cause - so fear not...we are getting closer!
It would also be really handy if someone who has this problem is able to create a new user account in windows and try with that. I understand this isnt a simple thing to ask, but hopefully someone might know how to do it :)
Also, just to confirm - has chat EVER not loaded like this on an Apple Mac?
It's going to be something really weird like network card drivers, or something really silly, thats all.
Thanks so much guys

Don't worry about it, too much =P There is only so much you can do to be honest, only so much James can do, so there's no need to apologise as it sounds beyond your control, and you're doing your very best to try and resolve it. Yeah it's not going to plan, but you're trying and we're patient! =)
