View Full Version : struggling...
I'm struggling with ignoring/suppressing the voices that I hear in my head due to my anxiety and depression, I'm on 30 mg of paroxetine at the moment but waiting on my next review as it doesn't seem to be working that well anymore. Does anyone have any advice on how to block them out maybe? Thanks.

When is your review? Perhaps your doctor would need to look at antipsychotics. You could suggest that.
Have you tried distraction techniques? A very popular one right now is colouring! There are tons of cool adult colouring books on amazon and in shops with cool, intricate patterns. Taking some time to sit and colour is a great way of focusing on something so you don't hear/notice the voices.
Have you tried listening to music through headphones? I've heard only putting one in can be a useful technique for masking the voices.

Antipsychotics tend not to be indicated if the voices feel as though they're coming from within your head, but it does sound like your medication is worth reviewing if you're still struggling a lot.
Do you try to counteract the thoughts, or challenge them with more positive ones? For example, if you start to think you are worthless, remind yourself of all the people that love you and ways in which you matter.
Distractions are also good, particularly things that command all of your attention. I find socialising and video games are quite good for that.
my review is in 2 weeks so not too long to wait and colouring sounds like a good idea actually I may give that a go. I've tried to counteract them which along with general distractions usually helps a lot just seems to be helping less and less lately I think maybe I just need a new type of distraction. video games may help thats not a bad idea, thanks:)
