My doctor started me on a low dose of buspirone for panic attacks, but all the information I'm seeing says it only works if you take it all the time and not 'as needed.' As far as I can tell, it's having no effect whatsoever on my anxiety at the dose it's been prescribed.

Also, even at a low dose, it makes me really dizzy. I'm reluctant to continue taking it, given the side effects and apparent lack of effect, but I can't get in to see my doctor until July 20 so I'm stuck with this stuff 'til then. And apparently I'm also stuck with my panic attacks until then.

Anyone have success with taking this stuff 'as needed' and not as a daily medication?

I'd suggest you go back to the prescribing doctor. Ask him why he's prescribed it as needed rather than every day. As far as I know most people are prescribed it to take every day, but your doctor must have had a reason to tell you to take it PRN. You'd need to tell him that it's not working, and that it's giving you side effects.

I found Buspirone made me emotionally numb which I suppose is what it's intended to do, however I found that this took all the meaning out of life and as my situation was still quite bad at work (bullying boss, loads of stress) I found that it increased suicidal thoughts because there were no emotions to make me think otherwise.

I personally found it much less useful than other medications but I imagine as needed would be better than the 4 times a day I was told to take it for.
