Does anyone have any advice on how to get the most out of an admission? The obvious things I can think of are to stay as safe as possible and talk to staff but is there anything else? I'm more than likely getting admitted today.
Thanks x

Have you asked them why they feel the admission is helpful and what you can gain from it?
Maybe from their answers you can work with them to figure out how you will achieve it. I think examining the causes of the behaviours that led to an admission and alternative reactions could be helpful as a starting point though.

From what I can tell its partly because my home environment is very unstable at the moment and partly because I'm unsafe. I think I need to look into moving if I can handle sorting it all & obviously need to be safer. I'm still on a medical ward though, haven't had a chance to see a psych on a ward yet.
Edit: yep being admitted for said reasons.

I found that talking through things with good nurses on the psych ward helped. Although sometimes I found that there weren't many good nurses on. There was this nurse on the ward I was on years ago wo was really determined to help me get better, he was super.

I would suggest working with the staff to come up with a care plan as that will be a really positive way of working together.
Things I've done is talking to people, engaging in activities, trying to utilise my leave and to work with the staff to keep myself safe.

Also handing over anything that you can hurt yourself with as it's counter productive to stay in hospital and keep things like that! (Not saying you have anything, but in the past I've done it and dont recommend it)

Thanks everyone. I've taken all that on board. The staff have written up a treatment plan that I agree with & I've handed over various dangerous/triggering things. It's hard to deal with the conflict of wanting to hurt yourself but wanting to get better. I'm going to do my best to stay safe though.

I agree with Dash that planning for coping when you leave is important, things like a timetable of activities can help and working on your housing situation while you're safe in hospital.

Thank you <3
The staff here are good and I'm managing to talk to them about whats going on. I haven't self harmed or caused any drama so that's good. I think I might be here a little longer than expected because a lot of people are out of area and it might take some time to get transferred back. I asked about some PRN that might work because loraz doesn't do much for me anymore (neither does promethazine). I've been distracting by watching stuff on my laptop and stuff. I'm struggling with food & drink and not feeling very well because of it but they're trying to support me.
