I've done a course of DBT. I found the group sessions very difficult due to my anxieties, so didn't learn a huge amount as I spent most of the time just trying to stay in the room.
The skills that I did manage to learn are very helpful though. It's hard work, but definitely worth it. I really hope you find it beneficial :)

I found group therapy really good. I learnt the skills and felt as if I could relate to people. Generally you don't talk in specific what's going on but you do talk in general if you've had a good week. We were supposed to keep a weekly diary about the skills we've used to overcome any difficulties we faced. It's hard work and you got to keep working on the skills to make them effective to when your on distressed. I think it's important to remember dbt focuses on the here and now and not about the past.
It is based on mindfulness and how mindful you're being when you do activities and how mindful you are with your emotions and destructive behaviour.
I hope you enjoy it and works well for you.

Brilliant. It was the thing that enabled me to recover enough to be un-sectioned and the skills I learned enabled me to stop feeling suicidal and for my self harm to dramatically reduce.
At the time it felt incredibly difficult to learn all the skills and practice them daily (as you are meant to do) and keep the diary sheets etc. It feels like a lot work, but you really do get out what you put in.
