As the title states, I am dealing with a therapist who is rather crisis happy. Instead of teaching me coping skills, her solution for every recent problem seems to be sending me to the crisis unit of the Emergency Room. Mild urges to SH? Emergency room! Don't have plans with friends this weekend? You're clearly depressed and isolating, EMERGENCY ROOM! The hospital staff just looks at me like I'm an idiot or a drug seeker and keeps me overnight for evaluation, as per requirement, and sends me home. It's expensive and a waste of my time.

Has anyone else dealt with this and what on earth do I do?

I can't say I have but I can see why it's unhelpful. Have you thought of discussing these concerns with the therapist and saying that while you acknowledge sometimes emergency is useful, maybe working together on skills to try before you have to go would also help?

I think you need to talk about this with your therapist as Aimee says.

It does seem a bit strange and I wonder if your location or age or ? Is causing this?
