Do you think I'm in denial about my mental health issues? I've been sectioned 8 times in 5 years. I've always thought I was faking it as some kind of comping mechanism I think... Could you fake it and pretend you have a mental illness after spending the best part of One year sectioned in hospital? Would they off picked up on it or am I genuine?

If you are faking it could you stop faking it? If you can stop then you are faking it. If you can't stop it's probably because you're actually ill

To fake something means you've sat down one day and specifically decided to start doing something on purpose, and pretend it happened by itself. It would mean you were totally in control of it, and could stop whenever you wanted.
If you were faking then you wouldn't have let yourself get sectioned so many times.
Many people who have mental illness worry they've been faking it. It's a common thought/worry to have.
