How much roughly is a private psychiatrist assessment?

And does anyone know any good resources for going about this?

I have contacted potter gate centre, and harley street but there must be somewhere more affordable than harley street?

I live in london. But can travel if i need to.

I am just having issues in NHS and would like a reassessment so I can get the right help because a few of my symptoms are really causing me a lot of trouble lately and persistently.

After I have it, how do i use it to persuade the NHS psych that he is wrong, and that they could and it would be helpful if they offered me different and the right treatment? HAs anyone been through this process before?

Thanks

I had one of mine at Harley Street. An assessment there is about the same price as other places, it's just doctors that hire out a room there I think.
Just make sure that a write up of your assessment is included and then you can just show it to your doctor.

thanks.

yeah harley street is £350. I was going to use my overdraft to pay for it, then pay it back, but it's affordable if I budget heavily for a few months.

I know it's a lot of money, but if I get the right help from it, and stop the stigma bullshit, "no we're not helping you when you need it" and bull in my reports and files, then I think it is worth it because I just want to be symptom free, or at least manage better or know what to do when I'm having a bad time a bit more.

Although I know more than I used to, there is no help for if i'm having a real crisis and the police are getting annoyed with picking up the pieces. Hence last time i just got sectioned as soon as i stepped out my door, but I don't want that. I'd rather be able to ask for and get the right help before it got to that each time I have an issue. x

You can look into seeing psychiatrists who work for Bupa, Spire, Nuffield etc they are all private healthcare groups.

Though even if you do have a private assessment and the psych says something different from your current psych, you current CMHT will have to agree to implement any changes and decide whether to agree to new meds that are suggested.

You might be better off requesting a second opinion on the NHS before spending hundreds of pounds for a private psychiatrist.

I don't see a private psychiatrist, however I have been seeing a private psychologist for about 3 years now. She is very good and costs £80 a session, which I have been told is pretty much industry standard.

As for getting the NHS to listen to her, well whole new can of worms. She's written numerous reports, and had many a conversation with my CCO but the NHS never really listen to what she has to say. She said that this is common, so even if they provide a report for the NHS, sometimes they won't listen.

She thinks they have my diagnosis wrong, and the treatment I am getting is substandard, she's done all she can to resolve it, but it's upto NHS if they wanna listen or not, which in my case they don't.

thank you for sharing your experience. I think it might help though because my GP is willing to fight of fit with me, and I saw a dr in A&E who agreed and said he would write up a report supporting a re-assessment, and that he disagreed with my diagnosis and what they thought was going on for me, and my treatment, and he said it ought to help with getting the right help.

Then i thought if i got another assessment how can one person deny 3-4 other professionals? if that makes sense, so instead of 1-1 its 3/4-1.

and if i took it to the board, or the organisers for the area and past this one psych, then that might help. x
