I'm normally very good with remembering to take my medication, however if I'm struggling a lot my concentration and memory goes to pot. I've forgotten to take them a few times recently and have paid for it in terms of withdrawals, but clearly not enough!

I have a long, bright pill box which is left in the open, and I put reminders in my phone. Does anyone have any other tips or methods that I can try?

Perhaps getting into a routine where you take it at the same time every day will help to lodge the event of taking your meds into your mind as something that happens every day?

I use a phone reminder and aim to take them at the same time every day, if I'm doing something I can't get away from right at that time (such as playing a game or reading with my sons) I ask my other half to bring them to me rather than wait and risk forgetting.

I try to do something with taking my meds.
For example, in the morning I'll have a brew and then take my morning meds, evening I'll have a meal and then take my meds and night time I'll sort my catheter stuff out and take my night meds.
It's getting into a routine and associating it with something else I always do at that time.
Could you leave your meds near the kettle, or your toothbrush?
It may take a while but for me it's almost automatic and I only ever if my routine gets really messed up. X

What works for me is taking them at the same time each day, leaving my meds out somewhere visible, putting an alarm on my phone and if that fails writing a post it note too!

This In my diary I have a checklist for the end of the day, mood, energy, exercise meds - it is normally at that point that I am reminded to take them now so I check off that I've had them for the day.

I normally have a good memory but when i'm struggling it goes awol too. This is the only thing that reminded me to take them, despite doing everything else as well. x

What helps me as I have adhd along with the bipolar so my memory is awful is to keep them next to the kettle so in morning when i have my first cup of tea they're there and in evening when i need to take them again.I know if I kept them out of sight I would never remember to take them.

I second Ajrocks with associating them with something that's a permanent part of your routine (I keep mine in the bathroom and have them when I brush my teeth, hair in the morning). Is there anything stopping you taking them with the reminder alarm?- Sometimes it's good to work these things out to get back on track

The notebook is a really good idea! Then you can easily tell if you haven't taken your meds. Of course you'd need to remember to write it down, which I've forgotten before! But if you kept your meds on top of the notebook then you will remember.
