View Full Version : audio hallucination??

Earlier today on my way home I had an audio hallucination that a man in the street said something to me to be nasty about my shoes.

I heard him say, "why the **** are your shoes so big?"

I felt very angry about it and it took all my willpower to remain level headed and ignore him. He didn't shout shout enough to cause a scene but enough of a comment like when people say nasty stuff to you in the street.

When I got home and took my headphones off to hear if my cat was behind the front door on my way in a he's not allowed out I realised how loud my music was and realised I couldn't hear anything else whilst walking home, I.e. traffic. I live on a main road in a city so the traffic is normally very loud.

So I realised it was a good job I chose to ignore it, but I doubt I would have heard him had it been true, but I did hear it. When I looked back at him as well he was just walking on.

This hasn't happened for years, voices outside of my head a if someone else outside of me said something.

My partner said I'd been doing this stuff quite a lot lately, but I haven't noticed and she said that's why she thinks I need to talk to someone. But I'm too scarred from previous experiences with mental health teams so have chosen to stay under my go as they are more supportive and provide better care than my canny ever did.

And I wrote a very nasty email to my old cc the other week, so going there again is a definitive no.

How do I cope with this?

I think it is good that I realised it wasn't real, but I'm a little scared because I'm only used to voices and urges and commands from inside my head.

And at the same time this hasn't happened for years, since 2011-2012 or so.

I'm not sure how to respond.

Could it be a side effect of my meds? I'm on 20mg citations + 5mg olanzapine + colcalciferol (vit d supplement)

Thanks. Sorry to make so many threads lately.

Im inclinde to say that it is not a side effect of medication as those meds should help/stop MH rather than induce them.
saying that when I was on quietapine it made my hallucinations worse so its not impossible.

But it could also be down to stress.

Im sorry you had this experience.
I guess the only thing that I know helps me with voices is music and mindfulness. you could try those maybe?

Thank you for your ideas. I think I will look up some mindfulness stuff in addition to what I know and download some relaxation podcasts. I'm going to the gym tomorrow so maybe that might help.

Does that help you at all? Is that a good idea?

Sorry for all the typos and auto corrects I just noticed. I meant cmht not canny and citalopram not citations lol. 20mg citations a day.

I may ask mr pharmacist about olanzapine and of that is an effect of that as he will know and he's very lovely and approachable.

Olanzapine is an antipsychotic which would really reduce symptoms like hallucinations, not cause them. It would be good to talk to the pharmacist though. Maybe it needs increasing a little?

It would be good to talk to the pharmacist though.

I am going to do this on my way to the library. He is very good.

I saw something yesterday too: but it was just as i woke up from my sleep and I have sleep hallucinations and talking a lot, so I think maybe it was just that. But I saw my partner wrapping my cat up tight in fishing wire, and when I looked again they were just having a normal cuddle. But i was really shocked. I think this is likely sleep related though because I have a lot of abnormal sleep behaviours, and my partner and friends have mentioned I've been talking a lot in my sleep.
