Does anyone have a medic alert necklace for mh purposes?

I suffer from schizophrenia and when I am extremely psychotic I am unable to talk properly and coherently. I also suffer from incontinence problems (and yes I do know that isnt really a real reason to justify getting a medic alert necklace alone).

I dont want the police to think I am drunk or on drugs because of having an acute episode. I know that it wont stop me getting sectioned if they think I am highly psychotic by having a medic alert necklace.

Does anyone here simply have one because of mh problems? I am hoping that if I ever come into contact with the emergency services that I get treated better than if I dont have one.

If so what do you have on it? Do you have medication? I am a bit wary of putting medication on it because I am after Christmas hopefully changing medication and I dont want to pay for something that's gonna be out of date less than 6 months later.

I am going for a necklace rather than a bracelet because of the fact I am morbidly obese and most bracelets are too small for me. Also I have a chamilia bracelet which I prefer to wear, and it may get in the way/not noticeable.

I have one but it's out of date. I was advised by my MH team that I used to be under to get one because at the time I was high risk for fainting sue to purging and dissoication which appears like I've taken something.

I think about getting it updated and wearing it because I know it would be helpful in an emergency. But I feel attention seeking for having it. Not sure why.

Thanks ThePrincessOfDenial. I also suffer from dissociation which I suppose is another reason for getting a medic alert necklace (and also another thing to put on it).

Having done further research I have found some bracelets online which fit me (at least they are the same size and bigger than my chamilia bracelet). But I prefer to get a necklace.

I have one for epilepsy, but I have my name, date of birth, medication and an emergency contact number on mine.
I think its a good idea to get one for mh problems I've considered adding mh stuff to my one :)

I have one for my autism (as I get violent when touched, am very hypersensitive and have periods of being non-verbal, sometimes I show it to people when I'm struggling to speak; it has also helped me when the police have become involved in a non-mh situation). However I also put my psychosis down in case I get acutely psychotic. But I haven't been acutely psychotic for three years and one month so far so mainly for autism. Also put my haemophilia on it too, for obvious reasons. And my dad's and my friend's mobile numbers.

Thanks everyone, I have decided to get one. However as the main website which has jewellery in my size requires medication details, and as I said before I am hopefully changing my medication in January. So I have decided to get one then because it seems stupid to pay money for something which will shortly be out of date.

You can get ones that say 'see medical card' and then keep a card updated, rather than having your meds on it.

I've ordered a replacement for mine that says my problems with dissociation and psychosis, and to see medical cards in bag which i have printed and detail all my information as well as contacts and medication.

I plan to put schizophrenia, dissociation on mine which fits quite nicely.

I've wondered about getting one, but I've always wondered how useful they actually are. Like, paramedics etc would be trained to look for one but would laypeople think to look?

I had a lady check my wrists when i collapsed after taking an overdose, so it's possible. i guess it's helpful and better than nothing - if half the people check then it's better to have something than nothing.

That's true. Come to think of it, I've been in positions where paramedics would probably have found it useful to have information. I'm thinking of getting something now too! Probably something where I can write info and change if necessary.

Hi! My grandma suffer from schizophrenia to, and she doesn't like bracelet, she use a necklace, but she have a medical system alert, I found it on reviewsbee. They have 10 top products, and everyone has a review, experience, score etc, it was very helpful for me when I searched what is the best.

On your mobile phone, there is a part of contacts called ICE (on andriod at least), which allows you to put medical details in it. This is accessible by emergency services (at least in Australia) even if your phone is locked. So if you are unconscious or incapacitated, they can get a bit of a medical history
May also be helpful to use this if you understand carry a mobile alot.
