View Full Version : Voices at night
How do you get a good night's sleep when you're hearing voices?
My voices have changed a bit recently and they're really annoying me. I have chronic pain and find they're worse when my pain is bad and when it's quiet.
My pain is worse at night and obviously it's quieter at night so I'm having trouble settling to sleep and staying asleep.
Does anyone have any tips?
Also, does anyone have any experience of hallucinating music? It sounds like I've got a radio on in my room playing really irritating music or a bit of a song over and over our sometimes two songs at once! It's loud and driving me mad.
I've got a diagnosis of schizophrenia and I'm on piportil and promethazine.
Thanks xx

I hallucinate music sometimes.
I have found listening to relaxing music at night helps with the voices. Also meditation at night help relax the body and mind.

I can really relate. I have chronic pains making my voices worse and and i havent been sleeping much at all for a month now. I feel like im falling apart and the lack of sleep is making my voices so much worse.
Im sorry you are going through this too. I dont have much advice but i will be looking at the responses. Just wanted to tell i can relate and care.
I dont hear music but when i started hearing voices in my late teens, it was the man from the news, telling news constantly and it was very distressing though it wasnt necessarily anything uncomfortable he said. I guess that can be a bit similar.

I don't hear voices severely anymore but I used to have the radio on a classical music station all night at a low level which helped.

Classical music helps me too. And i put on ocean and whale sounds when i have to sleep. It sometimes helps as well as its kinda relaxing.

Yh listening to some relaxing music can hopefully help u. Try and stay calm and not distract urself from sleeping. Thats one good idea u should do if u cant sleep. I cant sleep good situer but that has helped me.
Good Luck

It could be worth reviewing your meds if your voices have changed in quality, especially if it's getting in the way of something as important as sleep. For me, changing medication really helped with similar experiences. I personally prefer music with lyrics as I find it easier to focus on other words. Also, not going to sleep until you are really tired. Lying in bed with voices and feeling restless can be really distressing.

While I do not have Schizophrenia, I hear voices too. The voices are often worse at night and when I go to sleep. I usually put on either ocean sounds or thunderstorm sounds and they do help quite a bit. I also try an meditate before bed.
Thanks so much for all the feedback!
I'm having a brain scan just to make sure it isn't something physical going on.
I've been listening to relaxation music before sleep and it does help a little bit. Last night, I could hear loud techno music and was trying to find where it was coming from. In the end, I found it coming from my electric cigarette and as soon as I picked it up it stopped!
Anyway I was able to sleep till 4am after that :-) Thanks again x
