Afternoon guys & gals.

Just a quick query - I've become really aggitated & angry the last few months & have realised that this might be due to me starting on aripiprazole (which my doctors are using as a mood stabiliser). I'm on a very low dose though & am not sure whether this may be the cause or whether it could just be another aspect of the BPD coming to the surface/something else.

Does anyone have any experience of aripiprazole (abilify) causing them to be angry/irritated or know how likely it is that this could be the cause?

Thanks in advance.

When I was on aripiprzol I use to get very agitated and very anxious. Not necessarily angry but definitely agitated. So it could be the meds x

When I was on aripiprizole I had tremors, got very agitated and restless. I'm not sure about the anger though. When are you next seeing your doctor? might be worth discussing it with them x

This happened to me. Especially when I first started my higher dose i was completely on edge and panicky and agitated that I couldn't be around people - which sucks when you're IP and they're trying to make you "socialise" and "make use of the garden"

I'm not sure - whenever it is I'll need a new prescription, so within a few weeks. I may well ask, though I'm not sure it's a very common side-effect. Perhaps it's more common when combined with my other medication. Who knows.

Thanks though everyone. :smurf:

Aripiprazole is a dopamine partial agonist and for some it is more activating than calming. I felt very agitated and hyper on Aripiprazole because I require a dopamine antagonist to treat my problems.

However side-effects can wear off with time as receptors reach a steady state.
