Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of being a patient under a community recovery team? It says: "This particular team brings together a together a range of health care professionals who have specialist skills in working with people who have complex and severe mental health problems. The service aims to deliver excellent integrated, recovery-focused and evidence-based health and social care.

I've only ever been under CAMHS and adult eating disorder services. I'm having 2x weekly therapy (privately) but my Psych and GP feel, due to the severity of what's going on, a Psychiatrist needs to be involved.

If anyone has any experiences to share, that would be great. I'm under the Harrow community team.

It will be like an adult camhs

CMHTs in London are being rebranded as recovery teams

You may be allocated a care coordinator who may be a nurse social worker or ot.

Alternatively you will just see the psychiatrist who will keep an eye on you mainly with regards to medication

I've been under adult services for 9 years.

As Cam said you may be allocated a care co-ordinator and maybe a CPN or key worker and they will oversee your treatment and be your first point of contact if you're feeling wobbly or like you need to talk.

I see my CPN about twice a month (if they feel you need to see them more often then they will suggest it) and we go out for coffee, drive to different places, she's been helping me get the train, or we can just meet at the CMHT if I feel unwell and need to talk in private. She also sometimes comes with me to my psychiatrist appointments.

There's also usually something called resource therapy which is basically occupational therapy that you might be referred to. So there might be leisure groups, art groups, walking groups, pottery, things like coping skills and relaxation groups and so on.

Another aspect is therapy which they might offer you (though if you're having private therapy they won't be keen on you having two different therapies as they will contradict each other and be too confusing for you).

And usually you see the psychiatrist who manages medication and diagnosis mainly and outlines what kind of treatment you need.

I don't know where I'd be now without the support of my CMHT. They have (most of the time) been fantastic.

You'll likely have an initial assessment for your first appointment to see where you're at, what's going on and so on so they can decide what they can offer you.

As Cam said they might offer you everything I've mentioned or they might decide you only need to see the psychiatrist and continue with your private therapy.
