you have to wean yourself off them gradually and then don't take them anymore. You will get flu like symptoms so you need to decrease the dose till your body does not crave the drug anymore. It is possible, I take it for an auto immune disease and have managed to not take it for months at a time. You must be taking too many at once or taking it too often. That is why you need to follow the instructions given. Good Luck x

I was addicted to codeine once, no one told me it was addictive :/
After I found out it was, I stopped it immediately.
It was horrible and I spent a few days in bed in pain and it was like I had the flu, but it was worth it. Just needed willpower.

There are protocols for reducing people off codeine based medication. One i know if is that say you take 8 tabs a day then then next month you would reduce to 7 a day for a month then 6 etc etc til you got off them. Its a long process but apparently has good success rates. You would need to do it under supervision on a GP or sometimes staff from mental health team.
Im assuming your not taking codeine for pain as if you are then you would need to look to new methods of managing pain.

I have a problem with codeine use - you are not alone.

You will need to reduce the dose slowly, under the care and guidance of your GP. I think therapy could help you to understand why you feel the need to take codeine.

Well done for realising you have a problem - that's a great step.
