There aren't as many posts about positive experiences when going to the emergency room for self harm so I wanted to share mine

Basically, I had a rough night, harmed, had some concerns and went to the emergency room. At first I didn't think it was going to go very well but by the end of it I was so thankful for the nurse and doctor who took care of me

While doing my several stitches, they asked me questions but it was clear they were asking because they wanted to know for the future. I asked them if it was annoying when people like me come in and they said absolutely not, that they never felt annoyed by this kind of thing, but that people who are seeking drugs are what annoy them. They talked to me like a person and joked around with me while doing the stitches. They made the process the most comfortable it could have possibly been and apologized several times for my wait and for any pain I may have felt (from washing and putting the numb stuff in it)

So, if you ever need to go to the emergency room for self harm, don't automatically think you'll be judged. I'm thankful I went, even if it was scary at first

My first time I was on leave from hospital.

I needed stitches and the dr who gave them to me was so lovely. Ultimate she got out of me I was on leave but when I panicked she calmed me down and was just fabby!

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's easy to get bogged down in bad experiences and forget about all the professionals who go out of their way to make experiences in hospital more pleasant :)

I went to A&E a few months ago and the staff were quite good, there was one nurse who checked on me every so often and asked me if I was ok, and two staff from the crisis team saw me, they were very understanding, in fact when I started rocking back and forth to calm myself down, they said they understood that that was a calming method (I've had psych staff say "stop rocking" before). I asked them if I was annoying them (I cannot read people's emotions at all so I often "guess" what their emotions are) and they said "not at all and that they wanted to help me to get through this.
