I think it must be a problem with your computer/internet connection.
As I suggested earlier, it's worth trying another computer to see if the problem is your account or not.

Also - we've had a lot of chat threads recently. It's usually better to bump an existing thread than make a new one.

if it works someplace else how can that help me here?

I think OP's problem is a blue screen, without the "authentication failed" message but he's reluctant to try other computers/browsers.

I am unsure what would be causing the problem.

Good luck! I had the same issue with Firefox on my computer and chat has worked previously for me.

I'm wondering if things like java etc are updated?

sometimes if you use a prepaid dongle for your internet chat sites are blocked. you can get it unlocked. that is the only issue i've ever had with chat

We've verified that the issue is with OP's computer/internet, not their account. Any other suggestions? I'm running out of ideas!

i use a desktop with windows 7... and my computer is a HP... i fail to see how that makes a difference. i have been to many websites here and used their chat clients, this has been my first time not accessing one...

Even so, the problem is not with your account, or the website itself; the problem lies with your computer/internet.

I will keep looking for a solution.

I know I mentioned before, but what happens when you test the 8080 port (http://portquiz.net:8080/)?
I'm at uni where it (and therefore chat) is blocked and it won't load. if something appears then it works.

This server listens on all TCP ports, allowing you to test any outbound TCP port.
You have reached this page on port 8080.
Your network allows you to use this port. (Assuming that your network is not doing advanced traffic filtering.)

that is what i see... not real sure what i am looking at

-Have you installed any other updates and/or security fixes for your computer? i.e. is all of your hardware/software up to date? windows always alerts me
-What version of Java are you running? i dont know, i have no idea how to look it up, all i know is i updated it...

-What version of what internet browser are you mainly using? i use chrome but have tried others...

-Do you have your own internet connection/modem or like Sophia said, are you at a Uni or someplace else where the internet could be filtered? i am at home...

-If you've got a modem, do you connect through wifi or ethernet cable? cable

-The other thing with your internet connection- is it solid? Does it cut out a lot, or is it very slow? no, i never have issues

Could be an ISP issue? I know that if you have changed ISP (certainly in the UK) recently that they automatically turn the filters on. Could the chat be seen as adult and therefore blocked?

I could be on the wrong track but that thought occurred to me. My parents are shortly going to changing ISPs and I dont want chat issues because of that.

Same thing as with Java, if you right click on the Chrome icon you should be able to view properties.

You can test your speed using a website like www.speedtest.net

I only use Chrome at work, but it may come with a built in pop up blocker. I'd have to check which I couldn't do until Sunday at the earliest. If when you have chrome open you can click on the menu, you should be able to view something like preferences. Look in there to see if it says anything about pop up blockers, or java preferences to see if your preferences would need to be changed or updated. You may also want to check your security preferences too.

i tested my computer and it says i am running 3mb a second... i went into chrome settings and nothing looks out of the ordinary... the pop up blocker isnt a issue because the window pops up, it just stays blue and nothing appears... not real sure what else i can do, unless someone wants to access my account, but i dont see if that will help...

Could it possibly be related to the authentication issues?

You need to calm down, chat isn't the be all and end all of the world. Well it is for some, but you're a newish member so you can't be that fixated :p.

It was working for you the other day, and today it isn't which must mean theres nothing wrong with your personal computer settings unless you're swapping computers/using a library computer or going out of your way to change your settings.

But if nothings changed from the last time you were able to get in chat then just wait it out.

However I just realize you posted this at 12:59 which means you probably couldn't get in because of the whole '' You can't get into chat between 12 and 1am.
So I'm really hoping you have managed to get in now to save anymore melodramatic stress.

The Herbalist.

You can't get into chat between 12-1am BST- if you're not sure what time zone you are in or what time that would be for you, post your time zone and we can tell you. And that's not just you- if you've read any of the other threads you have posted in, it is an ongoing issue for every user- a fault in the chat system.

I too, do not understand why you seem to think it has anything to do with good or bad luck. It's technical issues, clear and simple.

You should be good now to try again, and let us know if it works.

This. We have yet to find any detours. My remedy has been to create a thread in general so I can ramble on while I can't get in, hehe.
