Authentication failed.

It appears that the chat is broken for some users. It recently just stopped working. Whenever I click on the join chat link I get a loading screen like normal then it times out and I get an "Authentication Failed" message. I do not personally know any admins, but I would hope that someone of some sort of power could see this and attempt to fix it.

It means we're repeating a lot of the same advice...

* Are you using a fresh link - not refreshing or using a bookmark?
* What browser are you using?
* Have you tried a different browser?
* Have you tried a different computer?
* Is any of these helped, have you tried cleaning out your cookies?

oh, umm. When I typed in the topic only two came up and were from more than 2 years ago. So I figured that it wasn't there. It should work because it has worked on this computer before under the exact same conditions.

This problem has now been fixed by changing browsers so if anyone else has the same problem I advice they change browser.

There are only so msny browers you can use. Doesnt work in my mozilla, safari, IE or, now, puffin.

It's not a chat problem for 99% of users. I suspect it's a computer problem if changing browsers didn't help.

No, it's not. It must be connect to BST because it's been since then, nobody can join between midnight and 1am.

that is what i believe too because nobody i have talked with has figured out the issue... so i guess people like ME get nothing while everyone else gets what they want... love this pathetic world we live in

KeepItSimple please try and understand the mods and members don't control the actual physical chat system. All they can do is suggest fixes that have worked for others and it is very difficult to help remotely when it keeps persisting.

I also think you'll find you'll get more help for your issue if you focus on the problem. It is not a personal slight that it doesn't work. I'm sorry you have such a negative view about the world now. I hope you can see sometimes things don't work, it doesn't have to be personal (especially with technology).

I guess it'll be resolved in the Autumn when we switch the clocks back. :p

I imagine it's to do with a difference in time between RYL and Chat by an hour, which technially makes them different days, which triggers and authentication fail (like then you refresh the URL after midnight normally).

It always happens between Midnight and 1am, since BST kicked in a few weeks back. I think one side must be on BST and one on GMT.

Yeah - I'm in their now. It's because there's a difference in time between the two connections - one GMT, one BST so it thinks they're on different days, which causes an authentication fail (like when you refresh the URL from yesterday).

Yep. The URL you use to enter chat is unique for a specific account on a specific day; which means it is confused that the days are different.
