I think i have depression. Im 14 and for about a year, ive been crying a lot (everyday now), see no point in life, have a lot of mental breakdowns, get angry a lot and ive been self harming along with a few suicidal thoughts.

Ive spoken to my mum, she doesnt understand and she doesnt want to take me to get checked. Im scared to go on my own to my gp to get checked. What should i do?

Hello

Sorry to hear you've been feeling like this.

It may be hard for your Mum to understand at first. Try explaining how you feel to her again some time.

Is there anyone else you can go to see your GP with?

If you ever need anything, you can always PM me.

I say see you gp on your own if your mum doesn't understand. Then explain to her later.

In the UK, I believe that you cannot see a GP at 14. Although I could be wrong. If you can see a GP on your own I suggest you do that. It may take a lot of courage and strength but it will be worth it the end. Took me a year to make my GP appointment, now I'm at CAMHS getting the therapy I need.

Captain is correct, well, kind of. They will have to inform your parents if you or someone else is at risk.
I personally would just brave taking your mum with you, or risk her finding out, at the end of the day your health is whats important lovely and if you wait it out tilll you're 16 to get support just so your mum doesn't have to know, it could be two years of absolute doom.
Also you're better getting things moving now whilst in the child and adolescents care. *leaves love*

Yeah, I just checked up with people in chat.

You can make an appointment on your own if you wish, but if you're at risk the doctor has an obligation to inform your parents.

Dixyy is right that at the age of sixteen it'll be private to you. Rather than your doctor having obligations to pass information on, you and your doctor have to agree on who the information gets passed onto.

I strongly suggest you see the doctor, and if you're nervous you can always take a friend for example.
