Hi,
I struggle with my mental health and because of this, I sometimes need a couple of weeks off work. I already claim DLA and tax credits, but when I'm not working, I only get SSP. Am I entitled to housing benefit for the weeks that I'm off work and claiming SSP? I'm finding it so confusing and have just had nearly 2 weeks off work, which is going to screw me over financially. I need to get at least £900 after tax and because of my time off this month, I'm looking at 6-700, which is going to cause problems, especially with the cold weather, which is meaning that I'm spending more than usual on heating.
Does anyone have any ideas or help?

How l long have you worked for your employer for and when was your start date?

As ussualy you are entitled to say 8 weeks on full pay if you have there for a year although it varies.

You can get more housing benefit when you're recieving SSP and you have to put a change of circumstances form in with your SSP rates although to be honest if you are off for only a week or two by the time you went back to work you when then have to put in another change of circumstances form to say you were back at work again.

You should be able to claim more for the weeks you're getting SSP - however as said above it'd be a case of putting in a change in circumstances form each time you stopped work/began again.

You're best bet is to call your local council office/benefits office and discuss it because they have other things which might help.
