Hey guys I'm back :-/ although i am 400 days free of SI :-). But now I'm struggling with life, i feel empty and miserable, I'm sleeping stupid amounts for me(this time last year i only needed an hour a night-i was hyperactive) and now I'm the complete opposite, I'm pushing my girlfriend away by being unloving and mean towards her, i don't feel sexual at all, and I'm totally destroying my relationship, so what i want to ask is has anyone self referred and how quick does it happen or can i just ring the well-being team at the local appropriate hospital. Thanks in advance

Well done on such a long time self ham free! That's quite an achievement.

It's good that you've recognised that you're not doing so well and that you want some help.

What happens next depends really on your local NHS trust, and if you've ever been under the care of a community mental health team (CMHT) before.

Normally you can't self refer to a CMHT- you need to see your GP first and ask for a referral and they will do it if they think it necessary. Then depending on how urgent it is, you might wait a couple of weeks to a couple of months to see someone at the CMHT for an assessment of your needs.

But if you've previously been under the care of the CMHT then either you can just ring them up again and speak to whoever you saw before and say you're struggling and need to see them again, or you go back to your GP and they can open your case again quite quickly if you were under the care of the CMHT within the past year or so.

Check your locality. You can self refer where I live and they give you an appointment to discuss it.

thanks guys, i decided today to ring the local hospital and speak to the lady i was having appointments with and she had already booked an appointment for me from my self referral, so that's in 2 weeks.
