You need a magic jelly bean.

Short answer: you can't.
I think the mods would consider it if you have a good reason, but generally they don't delete accounts.

That's a bit silly. On any other site you can delete your account by a click of a button.

Yep. I'm not sure why but that's how it is.

How do I contact the mods? I want to stop myself coming on here and don't particularly want all my past posts to stay on here. I want to move on from my past.

Because if you delete your account - it can mess up threads that you have posted in and it is something that's very time consuming. If you don't want to access your account anymore they you can always change your username and reset your password to a jumble of letters so that you won't be able to log back in.
To contact the mods either PM someone with a red username or email them at moderators@recoveryourlife.com
They very rarely delete accounts though unless you have a very good reason.

Ok thanks. I understand what you're saying but still think we should be allowed to delete. All the other forums I have ever been on have let me. It should be our right.

You could change your password to something random like hshufjufrgg48£377
So that you can't get on here?

An answer to this question is in the Guide to RYL (http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum/faq.php?faq=getting_started#faq_deleteaccount).
A couple of things - some websites do allow account deletion, some don't. One should always assume that things they post on the web will be stored somewhere, and nothing is truly deleted.
A couple of reasons as to why mods won't delete accounts - firstly, people in a particularly vulnerable state may wish to delete their account because they want to close off from the world/from their friends, which puts the moderators in a difficult position when trying to act in the best interest of members.
Also, it creates a lot of hassle if people choose to delete their account and then want it reinstated/come to expect the moderators to do that.
As others have mentioned, there are a number of other options if you do want to switch off from RYL.

I am fine thanks Dash. I just hate the fact that I can see things I posted a couple of years back. I have completely turned my life around and I'm not the person I was back then. I don't particularly want to be reminded of how life was back then. I like the thought of starting a fresh. I suppose it's a bit like destroying your diary or something like that! It's not going to erase these memories from my mind completely but least I won't be reminded of them. Also I suppose deleting myself off here means I can move on in a way. I've been grateful for everyone's help of course but while I'm still signing in, I'm keeping myself connected to a certain part of my life I want to move on from. I'm also worried that I might be traced by people who know me or recognise parts of my story in my posts and put two and two together.

Delete your posts and change your password to some gibberish letters.
