Hi :]
Just as a pre message before I start, this is NOT aimed at any one person in particular, its something that happens allll the time and has done for ages. I am just interested in knowing because it happens so often!
Anyway....say someone has replied to a thread saying something horrible or something. You PR the thread but then go back and escalate the problem by responding to what has been said in an equally horrible/flaming way.
Its one of those things that I (and I think the rest of the mods) find very odd!If you know that a.youre going to make the problem worse and b.youre more like to end up with points/a warning.
Is it because with PRing the problem isnt solved right away?Or youre just annoyed and want the person to know that you think theyre a tosspot?
Also its really funny when some people PR with a sentence and then post the exact same thing on a thread.....that makes me think that theyre posting both things and the same time and seeing who wins the race of replying :3
Anyway yes....no personal attacks/just curious. As I havent been rude to anyone I would expect this thread to stay nice with nothing to PR (the other mods wouldnt be happy if I made more work :3)
Thanks!x

.. its fun to be a keyboard warrior :(
(but not if youre a mod.. that **** is annoying if you have to moderate threads)

I admit it. I get irritated and should really take time to breathe and construct an adequate reply.

Hmm. I try not to do this, as I remember you pointing out it was dumb in a previous thread!
That's not to say I haven't done it.
Sometimes it's because I doubt the post is actually going to get edited (not because the mods are not doing their job or anything, just because it's probably not rule-breaking, just a little rude). So I imagine the post will stay, and thus try to be like "hey hey, that's a bit harsh", especially if it's aimed at someone else, because I want to defend them, and even if it's not actual rule-breaking I don't want them or the person who's been insulted to think that I think its OK.
Sometimes I just have uncontrollable BPD rage.
Other times I want the other person to see my thoughts on the topic, as I know even if their post is edited, they wouldn't actually get to see what I said in the PR, and not in an antagonistic way, I just want to be able to defend myself or another person.
And then other times I forget that I could PR and take the law into my own hands, and then remember about PRs and do it later, by which stage all hell as broken loose and there's no point deleting my post.

I see where youre coming from buuuut I think its important not to assume a post wont get deleted and then by replying the original person gets all territorial and thats when the flaming usually starts.
Its interesting to know why!x

I agree.

Or youre just annoyed and want the person to know that you think theyre a tosspot?
That sums it up pretty much.
I don't find myself doing this too often, but when I do it's because the other person has really grated on me.
Also, it's normally to defend someone else too, as I wouldn't want them to feel that they're alone/the whole forum is against them (exaggeration, maybe).
Finally, whenever I do reply to someone in this way, I never intend for it to became a complete flaming war (don't think that's happened in a direct response to one of my posts).
From now on, I'll try to refrain from doing this and by consequence, making a thread escalate in to a mini war.

I don't think I do this but if I do sorry!!!
Also I enjoy the use of the word tosspot!

I'll admit to having done this a few times. Usually because whoever I'm PR-ing kind of pissed me off and I want to get in one little dig before their post is deleted. To use Liv's term, it's to let them know I think they're a tosspot.

maybe if you want to support someone, or let them know that the whole site isn't against them, that you agree with them, etc. you could send them a PM letting them know that. that way they get the reassurance and arguments don't get fired up on the thread itself

I think if I PR something, I tend to write something more blunt in the PR to give a brief overview of the problem, then I will go and write a comment to try to calm things down a little bit. That would be the only reason that I would intervene in that way and I will do this more if no mods are online and the thread seems to be going off track reasonably quickly.
Having said that, I didn't realise it was annoying or a problem, so I'll try to reduce it, those are just my thoughts on the matter!

Ooh, also. Sometimes the person might not realise they've broken the rules, so I would post to tell them that so that they might edit it and so when the mods get to it, it's already been sorted, so there's less work for them.
Although, let's face it, most of the time I'm just being a keyboard warrior :p

^Thats reasonable!
However I also find it odd when one person says 'dude youve put numbers' and then the next 4 people say exactly the same thing. O.o x

I think there's a difference between politely explaining to someone that they've broken the rules (and then carrying on with support/advice/whatever), and a group of people jumping on the poster and just being a bit rude to them. There's no need for that.

^And there's also a difference between being mean to a poster for no reason (not nice at all) and responding to an antagonistic poster (still not 'right' but more understandable).

I agree with that.
and i also feel sometimes i have to really fight hard not to reply to something cause that person has said something ridiculous or offensive as i know i will just get riled up.so far i've managed lol! p.s i know i'm gonna sound like a right goon and i'm sure its very obvious but i'm not good at obvious but someone please tell me what PR actually means ta! i know i'm stupid!

PR means Post Report, its when members report a post (usually for breaking rules) to the moderators for them to discuss and deal with. It's a great way to help them out and keep things running smoothly!
Posts are reported by using a button, to the bottom left of each post, under the bit where your username is, is a little button that says 'report'. You click that, write a short reason and it is sent to the mods to discuss :)

See, I don't think it is more understandable. All you're doing is being baited and, ultimately, coming down to their level and doing exactly the same thing as them. I don't see a need to be mean, or antagonistic, to any other poster.

I wasn't saying it was the right thing to do.. just that people getting annoyed at an antagonistic person is an understandable reaction. Not one that should necessarily be acted on, but an understandable one.
