Why does the substance abuse forum not get much attention and how do we make it more active?

Should I **** off and find a better forum? Probably.

Just...what are you doing with the little people?

Hi Zed,

I'm sorry to hear how upset you are sounding, but I don't think anyone is considered a little person who uses that board. I don't know why it's not used frequently though, it could be a number of factors - perhaps some people experience a reluctance to admit they have a problem so they don't post, maybe people are not aware it is there.

I certainly don't think it is a case of you needing to leave, it might be a case of this thread for instance making people aware it is there and that it needs some attention, support, and people will be more inclined to check it out?

Unfortunately, a lot of the subforums can be really slow sometimes, including the grief and trauma support and binge eating. But it's nothing personal to those problems, they are still painful as all **** and require and deserve support and attention.

*sits with you*
I hope you're okay

I actually didn't really know this was even there.... I don't have a problem with substance abuse though. I'm sorry that it hasn't been pretty well put out there.
Maybe it would help drag attention to the subforums if the links to them were in another color? A not blue color? Or maybe made a bit bigger? This might help people notice that they're there, I don't know if that would increase the amount of posts in threads on there? (Of course, I don't know if any of that can be done.)
Well, I'm sorry I can't be much help. If you need someone to talk to feel free to message me, I don't know much about substance abuse, but I'm a pretty good listener!

Hi poppet,

I was a big advocate for substance abuse board, but it isnt used very often as its most of the time a byline. But if you need a chat feel free to PM me and I'll have a look for your thread.

It's nothing to do with people not caring, or anything like that. I think it's just a quiet forum, possibly because of its location, or just because there are few people who use it. You could always use on of the other forums for support, I mean, SID is meant to be for all forms of self-harm.

RYL was big and growing when all these forums started multiplying. I think a contraction would be good. I used to see grief and substance things in Serious. Now people post about a death or something in a forum that hardly anyone reads or replies in. If someone is upset and down etc posting in those empty forums has to just rub it in.

I do understand why we have the sub forums. And I also know I can ask for support in other forums. But if I were to male a thread in GSA or SD about alcohol stuff then I'd assume it would automatically be moved to the substance abuse section and thereofore be overlooked..

I think people just don't notice it. Like if I'm looking down the forums because it's not jumping out you miss it and it becomes easy to forget it if doesn't affect you directly.
Only way I could think to solve it is to not make it a sub forum.

*hugs* you're always welcome to PM and I shall up my stalking :P
