Hi everyone,

An idea from this thread http://www.recoveryourlife.com/forum/showthread.php?t=191258&page=3 was the possibility of having a night in chat offering group support for a specific issue that people are facing. This would hopefully include people giving their insights and people who are recovery etc.

I have attached a poll with different options and the most popular one will be what we run for the first night.

Thank you for your help!

Liv.

Head of Chat.

Great idea and an awesome opportunity to meet people with similar experiences.
Not voting as I don't have any need for support but I think it's a great idea :)

Liv, I know you probably can't do anything about it now, but I think it'd be a good idea to separate bullying and abuse.

Also, will you just put a thread with details about the event, and ask volunteers to be 'spotlighted' to come forward? Just wondering how it will work.

Bullying is a form of abuse, though, and shares many common issues.

I wasnt sure about the bullying/abuse thing, I just put them together because theyre in the same board! But if it doesnt get voted this time I will seperate them next time!

Yes I will post details and then ask for volunteers, if we have no volunteers then I will have to rework it a bit.

Even if you dont need support you can vote on what you think would be a good idea for others!x

Yes I know, but someone wanting to discuss bullying at school will probably get overshadowed (especially in a Chat environment) by someone wanting to talk about, say sexual abuse.

In the same way that I'd probably separate the EDs (at least into under and over eating, like the forum has done), because although they share certain thought-process and the like, they are so different.

Thanks, was just being nosey (or is it nosy?) really!

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that.. [Though what if the bullying includes sexual abuse? Just me being nit picky!]

It would be kind of nice to run through all of them... though it would take a while and a lot of effort.

Katie, I can see both sides; though they overlap, some might get overshadowed. Perhaps the first half of the evening could be on bullying, and then on abuse.

When does the poll close?

My poll sense are tingling...

I think with EDs...I would try and get more than one 'guest speaker' type person to cover different areas of EDs. I think the discussion will be structured, if people want to vent/talk about their problems it will have to be on something like alphabetical by username or something similar.x

I did the survey. I said ED's because I have found from experience that talking about ED's seems to be slightly taboo in chat.

Just whenever people bring it up, they get ignored or asked not to talk about it. It may be ignorance or it may be triggering for a lot of people. I don't know. Just my thought. *runs into bomb shelter for safety*

Why not just pick one per night and have it fall into a series of informative and recovery-oriented chat sessions. You could advertise on each forum a schedule for the series, the expectations of members (there are no expectations, come and get from it what you want), the aims of each night's discussion, who will be leading and contributing to the discussion, and what the night's schedule will be, etc.

By focusing on one recovery topic per night you'll make sure no topic is underrepresented. Plus, time seems to pass quickly when you have lots of people contributing to a discussion. You could easily spend an hour just on one topic.

Announcing a schedule much in advance you will give members a chance to plan to come and to have ideas already in their thoughts when they show up.

I said anxiety issues because anxiety comes with all of those.

I think themed chats are a great idea, with the understanding that they are recovery-focussed, not just woe-fests. Practical and postive ideas are so much more helpful.

Oh my bad. Sounded like you wanted to fit multiple categories into one night. Carry on then!

Ah!No no :] I wanted to know what would be most popular for the first night and then go from there with other nights. Haha I do have some sanity, fitting them all in would be mental D: x
