Hi there.
I have been diagnosed with OCD previously and been in counselling for it.
Have you told your doctors/phychologist about your apprehensions about the diagnosis?
It's a hard thing to accept help for.
I hope you're okay.

i have OCD, for a while it was quite severe, and have gone through treatment for it and gotten much better. i know it can be really hard to accept any mental illness diagnosis at first, especially if you don't understand the reasoning behind why they gave you that diagnosis. it might help to have them go through and explain to you how they think you fit the criteria.

like with any mental illness... getting a diagnosis doesn't change who you are. there is nothing actually different about you the day after than the day before, its just so that everyone can be on the same page about whats going on, and they can help you find the best way to treat or manage whatever you're struggling with.

i'm not quite sure if you intended this, but it sounds a bit like part of your reasoning is that you are too young to have ocd..... ocd can come at any age. i know alot of teenagers with it from when i was in treatment, and at that time i also saw young kids with it. and even people who get diagnosed as adults often had significant symptoms when they were younger. the other thing is that there is a sudden onset sort of ocd that usually happens to kids, which is PANDAS (don't ask me for what it stands for exactly) but basically its linked to getting a bad strep infection...

this probably wont be that helpful but I have been given a diagnosis in the past that I did not think I had at all...
one of my supports turned to me and just said "if you dont think you have x then thats ok, but it means you gota take control and prove them wrong"

I guess what she was trying to tell me was that we wont always agree to diagnosis' we are given and thats completely ok cuz lol we do know ourselves better than any health professional!! but its important to do what you can to make yourself feel better about it..

is it possible for you to get a 2nd opinion?

I totally understand where you are coming from. I was diagnosed at 14 with ocd as well and I thought that "this can't be right! I dont clean all the time or have rituals that I must do" it turns out that I think. so when I have bad thoughts I dwell on them constantly when anyone else would just let it go. I dont know if that is what you are going through but feel free to PM me about anything I have been there and it does get better just hang in there kido (ps 17 yrs old so pretty recent) :)

Hey. I was also diagnosed with OCD when I was 14 and forced into treatment for it (zoloft and counseling). It was totally the wrong thing for me, but I understand why they made that judgement. I wasn't honest with the therapist or the doctors, so they couldn't be accurate. I understand that a lot of times it's really hard to tell the truth about what you are feeling, but I think that if you disagree with your diagnosis, it might be in your best interest to tell your therapist or doctor how you feel and why you think you feel that way-- both about the diagnosis and in general. Good luck, dear.

Do you think you could sit down with them and get them to explain how they have come to this diagnosis - It may help you understand what they are viewing as meeting the criteria for the DX.

You can then discuss with them whether you agree and why.

I dont have OCD, but it is possible to be diagnosed at your age - I know someone who was diagnosed aged 12. She is now 23. So people younger than yourself can have it.

Just dont blame yourself for it, and accept what help you are given is the best thing.
