Hi everyone. My name's Hamish and I'm an ex-SIer. I've been SI-free for almost two years now, but I have another problem.

Recently, I've been in contact with someone who's writing horrible stuff about what I experienced in the past. It's really triggering to me because it's making me feel like I'm psychologically 're-living' the past event, and literally made me feel almost suicidal for a few hours or so when I seriously thought back to the event. I know the bad times are over, and that I'm safe now & don't need to worry, but reading this person's blog mentally put me back where I was years ago. I started having flashbacks and visions of the event, like I was unable to focus on the present. I was so shaken by these memories that I was unable to enjoy the rest of the day.

I wondered if anyone has any tips for me to help should the flashbacks come back? What I am NOT looking for is a bunch of "you should see a doctor" comments. I'll see one if this gets worse, but right now I'm stable enough not to need one. What I AM looking for is comments such as "I have PTSD too and I find X helpful".

Anyone got any tips? I'd be most grateful if anyone's got any to share.

I have PTSD and I can really relate, when I get thinking about my past it's very hard to bring myself back to the present, and almost impossible to concentrate on anything!

What I find that helps is to give myself small tasks to do.. simple things like watch a programme, take the dogs on a walk, clean a section of my room, listen to a certain song.. Take it one thing at a time and just keep doing these things until I find myself concentrating on what i'm doing rather on the memories.

I don't know if it'd help with you.. but just keeping busy helps me.

Just try different things hun, I hope you feel better soon and if you need anyone to talk to then feel free to PM me. :)
