What are your experiences? Mostly like hangover stuff. I usually feel like I have something caught in my chest......like it's heartburn or something....and it makes me want to throw up. Ugh. Is that normal, or am I really just overdoing it? I just feel terrible.......plus, I am super hungry but the thought of eating disgusts me......IDK if I'd be able to hold it down....Sometimes my heart beats kind of fast too and.....*shrug* Things are just getting worse, and I don't know what to do. My friend offered to go to AA with me, but I'm afraid/embarassed.........

*Hugs*
Thanks for posting this.

I get:
-really fast heart
-inability to eat
-bad shakes
-mood swings
-craving for more alcohol.

It's scary.
How are you? You should go- or go to another group sometimes a big organisation like that can make it scarier.

They have meetings for AA just for women, and I have thought about going to that.....but my friend that I was speaking of in my initial post is a guy...but his ex girlfriend, one of my best friends, also offered to go with me too, but I feel it is too much to reveal. Plus, she moved away recently... :-(

I managed to eat a bit today, but it is really difficult sometimes....I cough so much to the point where I feel like I should vommit. :crying:

I am a terrible person. :-(

I know this post is old...but i dont venture in here much. Just wanted to say, i get all that but what is more worrying me atm is a 'mental' effect it is having...if it is...basically have you (anyone) noticed it affecting your memory? Not just 'that night', but an ongoing, everyday/night thing?
Mixing up/misreading words?
Unable to continue on a thought?
thx

^^ this. you are not a terrible person.

Hi romperfy, I understand about memory issues, and concerntration. I cant trust my own memory or perception of things at all, even when sober. I basically rely on other people to inform me of events, even if I was at them ( which is completely subjective).

Is it a physical side effect or a self esteem/confidence issue?

You are not a terrible person.

I've been sober for almost a month now, so don't have the physical stuff anymore, but what I used to get is basically shakes, inability to eat, nausea, headache, and more cravings, etc.

I'm in AA, and although it was scary going the first couple times, I now love it. I have met so many people like me, some of whom are around my age. I have an amazing sponsor who was my age when she got sober and now has 40 years. The people there are like my family now. I feel like I belong, and being able to go to meetings and share, and have people understand me and support me no matter what, even if I slip, is just so so so amazing. I really recommend AA if you think you have a problem with alcohol. It's the best decision I ever made.

Thanks guys. My symptoms aren't as bad......I cut back a little for awhile, luckily. The only memory issues i have had is not remembering the night before from being too drunk....heh.......I do notice I get really depressed after a heavy night of drinking, but mostly I think it's due to shame/guilt/embarassment/etc....

It's good that you were able to cut back a little.
And I noticed in the past that drinking, especially on a regular basis, made my depression significantly worse as well.

Been sober for 9 years and I still suffer from some of the effects of my drinking days. Occasionally I will have some slight balance issues. I could be walking then all of a sudden I'll list to the side. It happens quickly but disappears quickly. My long term memory is also kind of poor.

I also recommend AA as well. It's the only place I can go where I don't feel out of place. Honestly, it's free counseling and people will call you out on your behaviors.

Aa isn't bad, but imo ain't for everyone.I was court ordered to go. A few years ago. There was an age gap- me being 22 at the time and everyone else easily double my age or triple. Yhey were surprised I was going but I didn't really have a choice and I could relate to a lot of what they said. Sometimes I don't give a **** tho.I've experienced what u posted. Good luck.

When I'm hungover, I crave food and more alcohol. I occasionally get a headache, maybe nausea, but it goes away after I eat or drink more.
