Levomepromazine

Has anyone been prescribed it? I'd never heard of it before they gave me it for insomnia.. does anyone know what it does?

It's a typical (i.e. first generation) antipsychotic but I believe it can be used for insomnia too, however there is no approved indication for it to be used in insmonia, but its most probably an off-label usage.

"Levomepromazine resembles chlorpromazine and promethazine in the pattern of its pharmacology. It possesses anti-emetic, antihistamine and anti-adrenaline activity and exhibits a strong sedative effect."

How many mg are you prescribed and at what time do you take it?

25mg and usually take it around 8pm. I've been told its very sedative

I take promethazine for sickness and antihistamine when needed. Although it can be used for sleeping. It sounds like levopromazine is similar. (They are both in the same chemical class - phenothiazines.)

I think levomepromazine has antihistamine effects which is why it can be sedating. Did you take it last night?

No not last night i'm on leave at the moment I usually take it when i'm at the hospital. Is it any good for insomnia?

Well then you would know if you usually take it!

I have not taken that particular drug, but most antipsychotics are sedating. Which is what you need with insomnia really. The good news about antipsychotics is unlike sleeping tablets they are not addictive, and also they dont stop working after a while.

If I was in your situation, I would try it, but report any unwanted/unusual side effects to whoever prescribed it in the first place. If any extremely bad side effects do occur, then it may be possible to change to another antipsychotic, as there are quite a few on the market. Of course, I am not a doctor, so this would be subject to your medical history, and the opinion of whoever prescribed it in the first place.
