Here's what's been keeping me up at night, and happening at the time of writing: I feel like tiny bugs are crawling all over my body. Especially my hair.

It certainly isn't all the time, just now and then, I feel like I have a horrible case of fleas. Anyone relate/have advice?

I don't have this myself. Are you on any medications? Do you have a mental health support you can talk to about these symptoms, I assume someone has diagnosed this..?

There is a form of hallucination where this happens to people. I think it's actually most common in alcohol withdrawal, although I don't know if that's relevant to you. I'm not sure if there's also a possible physical cause.

Nope, not alcohol or meds. It's a mystery to me too. I'll probably find some sort of professional to help. Just wanted your opinions first. :)

I think you should talk to your GP about this or any other professional you see. It is often a symptom of psychosis, personally through psychotic periods I see insects crawling on the ceiling and walls. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

I experience this as a symptom of psychosis linked to my depression - Not pleasant, so I appreciate it must be hard for you to cope with.

I will echo what Cassi has said, do go and speak to your GP about this and any other symptoms you have, as it may well be that there is something which will help (therapy/meds et al).

In my case, it tends to be more prominent when I am highly anxious or over-tired, so it may be worth looking at what is happening at the time for you, and to address those things - for example for me it is about ensuring I get rest, and focus on callming my anxieties and stress levels. Easier said than done, but worth the effort if it means such symptoms dissipating.

Be gentle with yourself.

Thanks so much for the advice, guys!

It is usually when I'm nervous or exhausted or extremely depressed. Dunno. I'm going to talk to someone about it. :)

I am curious...Does this happen during the daytime or night when you are trying to fall asleep?

I only ask, because I have had problems with visual/auditory/tactile hallucinations when in between sleep stages. It's not quite a "night terror," but I have envisioned "people" in my bedroom, heard non-existant radio static/voices, or have thought that there were bugs in my bed too...Not really crawling on me, but around me......And I have woken up terrified...

Basically, from what I have read, it can be between sleep stages when you are sort of in between wake and sleep...So it is kind of like having a dream when you are half-awake, if that makes sense? That could be why it seems so real....

I have gotten used to these "episodes" for lack of a better term...They tend to get worse when I am stressed out or feeling particularly low.

Hope I could be of some help, at least. :-)

Hi, do you know they're not real or do you think they are?

If its not due to actual bugs, theres a thing called formication - 'the feeling of ants crawing all over'. it can be caused by lots of things, but since you said it seems to be worse under stress or feeling bad then it could be mood related, but yeah, see a dr :)

Interesting to see such things have names.
