View Full Version : Having to change psychiatrists

I found out the other day that once i turn 21 i will have to find a new psychiatrist. At one point, we had discussed this and he said that he could keep seeing me as an adult. Apparently, the rules have changed due to new management. This will be hard for me as I have been seeing him for about 6 years. He also has been the only one to treat me since i was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I will probably have a hard time trusting a new doctor because, while inpatient, I have experienced psychiatric care that was way less than adequate.

Also, my Aspergers (high functioning autism) makes it where major changes in my life are almost like a phobia.

Please give me some advice and, if nothing else, encouragement.

You could ask your current psychiatrist if there are any colleagues of his that could do the job. If they have his approval, you'll likely find it easier to trust them :)

Could you make the move gradual, so that it isn't so scary and sudden for you?

Good luck!
