I have Social anxiety, and Im doing a healthcare course that leads to HPC registration

My lecturer was always a bit funny about my SA

on placement I had some absences and I hadnt broken the absences rule. I reached my limit and she calls up the hospital and tells me people think I am skiving. I got really upset and actually cried in front of my patient, but she was really nice and hugged me lol.

Turns out no one at the hospital said this, it was just her opinion seemingly. My supervisors were really angry and told me to complain. I still have a year left at uni and its not a big country or profession!!

what got me was that had she bothered to find out what SA actually was, she might have thought better than to tell me I was being talked about behind my back especially when it is lies. And to call when I had my own caseload of patients and was doing really well. It set me back really badly!!

I just think this year is going to be even worse. I think universities/schools need more training on these issues.

any similar experiences?

To be honest, I would put in a complaint about this. Your lecturer had no right to treat you in this way.

I do sometimes think the education profession could do with more training in mh issues - but more importantly, they should already have had training in not treating people in discriminatory ways - which what you are describing counts as.

You have done nothing wrong here - So do not worry about your ability to do the course or the job it leads towards. If there was a problem with that side - your supervisor would have let you know.

*safe hugs*

Do try not to be too convinced that this year will be worse. Much better to view it as a clean slate and do the best you can.
