View Full Version : Hearing a voice in childhood

Just a quick question to see if anyone can solve my little mystery.

When I was a child, I would occasionally hear a voice in my head. It usually happened when I was laying down to sleep. It was basically a person's voice very loudly shouting my name. It was very definetly in my head and not a real person. What is odd is that it used to 'interrupt' my thoughts, it would just come out of nowhere - I remember that it used to frighten me. I have never experienced this or anything like it in adulthood.

I've always wanted to know what caused it; does anyone have any thoughts? I have OCD, so I do have thoughts which don't seem to 'belong' to me, but a shouting voice is unlike anything else I've experienced.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I don't know what is was, but I also have OCD and experienced something very similar throughout childhood.

Look up hypnogogic hallucinations.
They're very normal.
