View Full Version : Advice articles missing?

There seems to be several articles missing in the Advice section, particularly in the Self Harm and Mood Disorders categories. Are these just articles that haven't been written yet, or are there technical difficulties? I apoligize if this question has been previously addressed.

Some of the articles are now up but not all of them.

BUMP

this thread was made in august and it is now the end of november -v3 has been around for a long time now- since march i believe and there are still very few articles on the main site especially in the ED section of the main site. i know there have been problems but to be honest im getting sick of hearing the same excuses and being told SOON... what does soon actually mean here.... a year or something?

articles are/ were such an important part of RYL and its support system.I personallystruggle to now support people because i used to link people to articles within my reply but now i cant do that and feel my support may not be good enough.

Iknow i will be told if i want an article i can pm someone about it but that isnt what i want, articles cant just be copied and pasted into threads, it will just make the thread stupidly long and probably unread by the thread starter.new people wont know about pming someone for an article, some of those i have found very helpful in times of need and no one to talk to.

This may have come across as harsh or w/e but this has really started to get on my nerves after being told time and time again that they will be up sooon.

so is anything actually being done at the moment about this or has it been forgotten about?

I think the problem is that there's like, one, maybe two mods with the ability to do this, and she's also the head of the Member Schemes as well as being a mod and stuff. I agree that it should be done faster but considering it's a one man show at the moment I think it's going pretty well.

but it should have been done before v3 opened imo

ban me for having an opinion about how RYL should be

No I very much agree Jane-ness.
Unfortunatly I wasnt a mod then so I dont know what was happening.
I think I have super magic powers now I just need to learn how to use them properly which I am picking up more and more. The community section i've got down, its just the rest. I promise I havent forgotten about it and that im trying my hardest.

I agree that they should've been done before v.3 launched, completely. I don't know why they weren't, tbh.

But we can't change that now, and the most important thing is that they're being done ASAP now.

I think the problem is that when the staff got on V3 Harley hadn't even finished building the main site yet, he made sure the forums were done first. So then, there wasn't even a place to add the articles to. In fact, right now in the first aid section some of our pages still don't exist.

Then after we went live, there have only been 3, maybe 4 people who have the ability to add articles to the main site, and a lot of that has depended on Harley's plans and their availability, (like Aimee).

What we maybe need to look into is getting more people who can post up articles on the main site so it's not so dependent on a couple of people.

If I remember correctly, Harley wanted to put his time towards getting the articles down before v3 went live. However, v2 was about to fall apart technically. And finshing getting v3 ready proved to be a bigger job than expected. The launch date had to be put back. Members began complaining and it got to the point of going live there an then (think we had like 5 days noticce) or finshing off the site but having no members left.

Once we went live, there where a lot more technical issues to deal with and that became the most focused on nthing.

Yes th articles shoul be up, but the site also needs to be kept running. Unfortuntley it comes back to time constrints and the articles do get put on a back burner compared with most other issues. I am on the dvice team and on first aid and I know with our staff shortages, we have had lots of delays which have prevented us from having the time to finsh preparingn the articles.

I can assure you that we arestill w orkingn on getting these articles sorted, but it is going to take time. Espically seening that most jobs can only be done by one persons to the pass on to one other person ect.

I see, There are limited people/resourses (not to mention the technical difficulties with v2,) and I realize the articles do take a back seat to more important things like modding the forums and stuff. I do hope that eventually all the articles from v2 are imported, I did like to read them! I appreciate the efforts of the people who deal with this and have noticed that there are some more articles up than there were before! Keep up the goood work peeps!

I think the team are doing a really wonderful job despite everything - because Kim is right it really is a process of going through one person to another at the moment and that isn't fair and it isn't easy.

My hat goes off to those who have worked very hard on what we have so far - I did notice that more articles were added.

And if you need a hand, if there's anything I can do - let me know. But I am sure the rest of the community can, too, appreciate you are doing your best. And that's all we ask

:)

I can promise that without a doubt that the articles will all go up and that a lot of new ones have been written, in the mean time as I said poke me via pm as much as you like, I could honestly do with it! And if anyone comes up with any ideas for new articles please let me know because that would be fabulous :)

BUMP

This was written a while ago, but I've just been looking at the "Advice" section of RYL, and it appears that there's not much there apart from the beginning explanations.

Is that a fault, or is my computer playing up?

EDIT:

Just checked, the Self Harm is working I think, not sure about the rest, but I was mainly looking at the "Abuse/Bullying" and "Eating Disorders".

Your computer isnt playing up!

The articles are good to go but there appears to be a few behind the scene problems. If there is any article you or anyone wants you are more than welcome to pm me and I will have a look for you.
