I can't feel the cold...weird.

I can go out when its 0 Celsius in a t-shirt and not feel cold at all. I can't feel the cold when I'm outside wearing not enough in the middle of winter. Its really weird because when everyone is shivering and saying "brrr its so cold" in their duffel coats and woolen jumpers, I'm just standing there in my t-shirt completely warm and fine.

Does anyone know why this is?

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-IV-TR BOOK and the BNF, and have a fairly large knowledge of psychopharmacology.

I have a visual processing disorder / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
I am a pharmacology student at UCL.

I don't feel the cold too much, but I don't think I could be wearing a tshirt in 0 degrees. I've ran around in the rain naked before, but it's a secret...

And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! -- Not a vegetarian

Body fat content can alter peoples experience of temperature. Medications can also do that. People described as Schizophrenic sometimes have altered perceptions of temperature as well. I am sure all sorts of things could combine to later temp sense etc. Even Buddhist Monks are suppossed to be adept at altering physical sense.

I really feel the cold, and I can't bear very hot weather at all either - indeed anything much above 21o celsius. My temp. regulation is mixed up. I can't warm myself up or cool myself down. I relate this to my prematurity and later trauma stuff. Sometimes I'll have 3 jumpers on and be wrapped in a blanket and still be shivering. And I'm at a healthy weight now, too. It's just something I have to live with. At least in the cold I can put more and more layers on and such. In hot weather things are more complex!

I never used to be able to feel the cold, would like have bear legs in winter and never took a coat to school. However since I lost and gained significant amounts of weight a few times my temperature regulation is screwed up. I get so cold and shivery whenever the temperature drops slightly.

Thanks for all these replies and suggestion.

I'll ask my psych if she knows why I'm like that.

Well you say you have a diagnosis of Aspergers, those on the Autistim spectrum tend to have a lot of sensory issues including hypersensitivity or insensitivity to the cold or heat as well as a lot of other things.

Strangely enough I am exactly the same I can walk out in the snow wearing only a tshirt and according to my mum I have never caught a cold but the only downer is that I feel the heat more e.g. A match burns me more than it should a normal person and when I went to my doctor about it he just said that my body temp is really high so my immune system fights the cold quicker than my body can feel it.
