I hurt my hand.

Long story short I ended up punching someone in the face a few times in self defense. I didn't really intend to, but I got a crazy adrenalin rush and it was like my body was moving on it's own.

Anyways all my muscles in my hand are really sore and I have bruises between the knuckle and first joints on my index and middle fingers. The muscles in my forearm are a bit sore too but my pinky finger is what hurts the most.

It didn't hurt yesterday (probably because of the adrenalin) but when I woke up my pinky hurt and in a few hours my whole hand, then my forearm and now it's starting to feel sore up to my shoulder. There's no swelling or anything though.

I've never actually punched someone before so I just wanted to know if it's normal for it to be sore and hurt for a while or if I should get it checked out. Sorry if this is kind of a stupid question, I expected maybe my knuckles would hurt but not my whole arm...

Arnica cream can be good. I always use it on bruises, or when I've got out of control in certain ways and hurt myself.

I'd say if you're at all worried, drop into a pharmacy or walk in place and get someone to have a look at it.

Its Normal to hurt if you punch someone - depending which area of a person you hit. But it is also very very easy to "pop" or break a knuckle from hitting someone so if you don't have decent range of movement, or it's very sore then get checked out.

I wouldn't worry about your arms, that just sounds like pulled muscles. With your hands, if it's really swollen/ bruised or you can't move your fingers properly/ it doesn't look or feel normal then go and get them checked out just to make sure there's no damage to the knuckles, fingers or the metacarpals (the bones in your hand) as all of these (especially your knuckles) are at risk of injury. Also, if it's no longer improving or has worsened since then this is a sign that there may be more severe damage and therefore it needs to be checked out.

Ice can help reduce the swelling; put something like a damp towel between the skin and the ice and then use it, I'd say for a maximum of 5mins if it's on your finger, 10 if it's on the main body of your hand every hour. Also, if there's no medical reason why you can't or you aren't on any medication that means you can't take it (read the leaflet to find out) you could try taking Ibuprofen and that will help reduce the swelling and pain.

Thanks, I've gotten it checked out because my pinky still hurt, the doctor said I'd sprained it. I broke it several years ago and it healed at a bit of an angle so it ended up bending funny when I hit him.

Also, I'm probably going to avoid hitting anyone ever again...I seriously think it hurt me more than them :p
