Trigger labels

Hi guys,

As you're aware, the CT and mods have been taking a look at the trigger labels and your opinions, and have come up with a new list which we will be implementing. As most people thought we have too many trigger labels and that they were too cluttered, the new list has less labels, making it easier to post without worrying about what label to use.

We have also changed "trigger" to "contains", as this will help other people determine what your thread contains and how to better support you. We also have added a few new labels to help.

This is the new list we have put together and the majority have agreed on.

The following content has been hidden - Reason : New list!

Open Topic Support Forums
General Support and Advice

Moving Forward
Contains ED
Contains abuse

Serious Discussion and Advice
Contains abuse
Graphic

Ranting / Venting Forum
As ranting and venting doesn't need any replies, and all topics are triggering for something. Therefore we have removed all labels and you should be aware that all threads will be triggering. Please enter at your own risk.

Specific support, advice and recovery forums
Self-Injury Discussion and Support
Positive recovery post

Eating Disorder Support and Binging, Overeating & Related Issues Support
Positive recovery post

Substance Abuse Forum
Contains OD
Contains alcohol
Contains illicit drugs
Contains medication
Contains abuse

Grief and Trauma Support Forum
Contains Suicide

Abuse and Bullying Support
Contains abuse
Contains sexual abuse
Contains bullying

Vets

Veterans Support
Contains ED
Contains Suicide
Contains Abuse

The SI trigger label has been removed completely as RYL is self harm support forum, it is expected that threads will contain mentions of self harm.

If a post contains "abuse", you should expect it to contain all forms of abuse including sexual abuse, so take care.

"Positive recovery post" has also been added so there is a bit of positivity in the boards, which is nice.

Thanks for all your thoughts and opinions, and we hope you're happy with the new changes.

I would also like to say a huge thanks to all of those who helped with this but a special thanks must go to Tiff (Rawrk) who has put a huge amount of effort into getting these ready.

Thanks

Cam

I like all but A&B forum ones.
I think "contains abuse" & "bullying" is enough.
Just because sexual abuse shouldn't need a separate label especially as i find that general abuse/bullying threads in the a&b forum tend to get overlooked because of such labels. But that's just my opinion though.

Other than that though.
Much, much, better! =)

Yes, but then there is no warning of sexual abuse. It's like the substance abuse board, when labeled correctly people can get better support, kinda thing. I didn't explain that very well, sorry.

I agree with this, I think. I think it will [hopefully!] work with the way the labels in the A&B forum are. It's quite a slow running board anyway, and I'm guessing there will be some people who are able to cope with reading and replying to abuse threads but not to sexual abuse threads, so hopefully this way it will allow more replies to some threads, if that makes sense?

But yes, I like the new labels, they look really good, thank-you. :)

I'm fairly certain it's because you can expect discussions of suicide in serious, because that's the nature of the board.

In essence serious discussion should contain only the most despairing posts. Vets support will have post. That covers the mundane to suicidal in a way it's a mini ryl in one board.

Graphic to my mind hum as serious is a board that ideally no one would ever need to post in I guess graphic is for the most triggering of all posts if used correctly I would expect it to be used once in a blue moon!

All of the boards stickies contain brief descriptions relating to the new labels

There is only one thing to add and that is to make these new labels a success please don't add your own 'triggering labels' to the title of your thread.

Just to add to this, that's the reason we changed from "triggering" to "contains". We discussed that what's triggering for one person isn't for another, so "contains" is technically more accurate.

I like this much better, especially the switch to "contains." This new setup is a lot more streamlined. Hopefully this new list may also act as a guideline to reduce confusion among new/uncertain members who aren't sure where to post.

Thanks! :)

I also think that people should stop self labelling their threads as "Urgent". I find that it sort of lessens the importance of everyone else's threads, when the in reality, why should they get more immediate support? Does that mean that they are more important? Does it mean that they should get support more quickly than someone else who is also experiencing similar emotions/difficulties etc?

RYL is fairly fast-moving anyway, in my opinion, and we have the Chat, Live Support, and there are external helplines to call if there really is an urgent/crisis situation.

I've only seen 'urgent' in the first aid forum. Are these threads in Serious? If so, I totally agree with you with regards to other threads and relative importance.

If we find that people are still extra labelling threads could we maybe post a thread in the respective forums? Just because I know Stickies can go unnoticed.

Yes, I'm talking about Serious. I can understand why they're there in FAF, but I really don't think its beneficial anywhere else.

And I think that is a good idea; I know that I usually just glance past the stickies out of habit.
