Triggering (SI) - *graphic* cutting on top of scars

this might belong in first-aid, i'm not sure.

anyway, i was wondering...is it bad to cut on top of old SI scars? i cut a day or two ago and i just noticed that i cut over an old scar. does it matter?
i also thought, maybe this is better bc if i cut over old scars on purpose rather than on smooth skin so i would have less areas of scarred skin.....

any input is welcome...

Hey. =]

Ermmm, well cutting over old scars in my experience makes the scars take much longer to heal... and it makes the scar a lot more noticeable in the long run... and I would say that's certainly not a good thing.

I'm sorry I don't really have much else to contribute, but I hope somebody can help you out.
Take care. =]

I tend to do it a lot, tbh. I don't always think about the where, and just go for it, so yeah, quite often, I SI over an existing scar.

Probably not much help seeing I dun have any actual advice to give, but just wanted to throw in my own two cents all the same

You're welcome.

Really, I don't notice a difference in the amount of time it heals, if it's over a scar or not. The only thing that seems even remotely different is if it's over a healing cut or scar, it might bleed a little bit more

I've cut over old scars before and I've found that it makes the new scar much more noticeable and takes longer to heal and fade.

Hardly any of my scars from the previous year have faded :(

Most of my body is scarred so I have no choice whatsoever than to cut over old scars.

I do not think there is anything bad or wrong or dangerous about cutting over old scars. I personally disagree that it lengthens healing time and makes other scars worse etc etc

The only differencce is that

The following content has been hidden - Reason : Very triggering

when you repeatedly cut over scar tissue cuts stop 'pinging open', yknow when they open up wide. Instead the cuts go 'down' and dont open much. This is because the skin loses its elasticity over time

I find that when cutting over scars, to get through the scar tissue I have to go deeper (sorry, delete if it's tipsharing) but it might be because of the amount I have done it in the same place

I plan my cuts out ahead of time an intentionally cut over old scars. Because of my complexion I scar very easily and I have some scars that I know will never go away. So I cut over them, knowing that it will make the scar worse but it decreases the amount of scars which I think is better (for me anyways).

I have noticed that it bleeds less when cutting over old scars. I don't really know if it's "bad" but I just thought I'd share...

I don't tend to cut over scars but because the skin tissue is already damaged it will take longer to heal and will scar for longer i would think.

thanks everyone for replying! i love it when i get lots of replies it makes me feel loved! :)
Unbearable that is exactly my experience! i've only done it once on purpose tho, cut over an old scar. this time was an accident.
but i like the idea of keeping them all in a small area rather than having to spread them all over my body.
i don't like the idea of it bleeding less though, that is really a part of the experience for me...the blood. :(

anyway, thanks all!

I dont know how this works for anybody else, but i noticed that after a while of cutting my skin got tougher so if i cut over old scars it took more to do the same damage.. i dont know how this helps.. sorry.

Wut ive noticed is when you cut over pre-existing scars it tends to go deeper than normally which in my opinion is a good thing.

For me they go deep but cutting over scars means they dont ping open, ie. they dont open wide. They just go down instead. I find it infuriating because I like wide cuts. I dont condone bad self harm its just my personal experience and view

I know what your talking about. i don't want to ruin any more.. virgin skinn if you will, and i'm afraid to SI over scars to keep my scars and marks hidden where i want them so they woun't be discovered but so i can still ware shorts. so yeah.. i wouldn't risk it really. i guess. but i'm trying hard to stop. so yeah.. but i would try not to SI over scars.

sorry i just wanted to put that little guy there cuz hes just so darned cute! =D
