Can other people see your buddy lists?
How do you find out if you're someone's buddy?
If you have someone as your buddy, and they have you as theirs, then do they become a "friend" or is it not that sophisticated?

Then I got annoyed by the plus sign next to my name, so I took myself off again.

No, others can not see your buddie list - it is a personal tool to keep up with your friends coming online and nothing more.
I didnt want a whole system of 'groups' here on the new site, too cliquey

I don't think so. I didn't get any notification when I buddied myself...
And I'm not aware of being anyone's buddy at the moment, so either you don't know or just no one likes me. :P

Whilst we're on the subject of buddies, is it possssible to have someone on you 'buddy list' and not have an arrow by their name in the listing of who's online?
Sorry to be picky, but it's rather off-putting and annoying. o_O
